So I am traveling. I am in Minot ND now and it has rained all day. Any suggestions on where to see a pheasant beside the road? I am heading north on 52 to Canada tomorrow but willing to make a short detour from here. Just want to see a pheasant as we drive through this beautiful state. And maybe a moose too. Why not.

Find hwy 2 and ride it south I never went all the way up to minot, but hunted a lot of duck and pheasant from Harvey south to hurdsfield. If its dry watch around dried up ponds. It's about 30-40 miles to hurdsfield and there is a big preserve area somewhere south west direction of harvey if you can grab a PLOTS map from a gas station it should show the area.

Hurdsfield is Alot furthure than 40 miles from Minot!. Go north of Minot about 15-20 miles and go east you should see pheasants and a good chance at a moose.

Excellent. North on 83? Or will north on 52 work?

We ate lunch in Harvey and talked to some locals. They said the rain had to let up to see any so we have moved north. Supposed to just be cloudy tomorrow. Thanks.

North on 83

Oh yeah, you should see birds around kenmare and north to the border. There are moose there also.
Look for standing sunflower fields and you have a decent chance at seeing moose.

snowy,,im not too familiar with the Pequot lakes area, but minn has a ton of public land most everywhere. any sporting goods store should have map books that show this land and its boundaries. id pick a spot with standing crops like corn or beans adjoining it, and hunt the heavier cover areas w/in that spot. hope you can find a bird or two. good luck.

I doubt Prior Lakes has any pheasants, but your getting near good grouse country. If you wants pheasants try SW In around Marshal

Thanks, I appreciate that information and will see if we can get out and find a bird. It would be the easiest hunt we could put together for the week stay.

Ely is overrated,..with this climate warming stuff going on,you're better off looking into the Grand Portage areas. Use short barreled modified!

Jack rock.
When you hit the town of coulee, turn West on 50 towards powers lake.
Not many birds there but you may see a moose. Go north at powers lake. Flaxton/ portal area you should see birds.

And Snowy. Even though you're a MN hater, I'm sorry about the past post.
Ely is bear country. Not a pheasant within 100 miles.
I don't have the tell number but Google and call Antler Lodge near BigFork.
Helpful folks and they'll steer you in the right direction

I live about 5 miles from Pequot Lakes and if you are looking for wild free ranging pheasants you had better look elsewhere. Most of the birds are in the southern or western part of the state .
There are, however, a couple of game farms within a few miles of Pequot where you can pay to hunt pheasants.

Let me know when you get to town and maybe we can have a visit.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Yep, the guy I'm going back there with actually told me that you were lying once again on Ely. LOL I wouldn't trust anything you told me before checking it out in-depth. Lol

Thanks, again it seems you know more about other states to hunt then your own state. You give that advise out but rarely if any for the state of MN. Just always seems interesting to me when these posts come up. You are pretty quite when people ask about where in MN to hunt. LOL

You have a good one bucks&beers LOL Thanks though and happy hunting.
