We as a country would be heap big doodoo if we went that way.

Of course because of 2008, banks can legally do a haircut and nothing you can do about it.

People would stop putting their petro dollars in the banks then and banks would not have any fiat currency to loan out.

The way I understand it -and I have proven in the past I can be wrong- it would be fore business type loans to keep stimulating the economy and they would make up the difference by the little people [ us ] staying employed and buying more.

Its to get the hoarders to spend.
As you hold it, it shrinks,so better to spend it quick.

Just put it in my mattress, it will lose less value. I can take cash out and play with it everyday.

NIRP is bad policy. Trump has spoken out in favor of it.

Exactly right !! That is a big part of the reason that US Treasury yields are dropping........because money is flooding from Europe into US Treasuries !!

Demand for US treasuries is up and yields are down? I don't speak this language well, but isn't this the same as demand is up and prices are dropping? Or are you saying bond rates are dropping because bank interest rates are dropping, but they are more attractive at record lows because bank rates are pitiful?

Must be a significant amount of insecurity in the future of the world economies if monies are flooding to the USA as the world economies slow. Also if one needs to have negative returns on monies to create borrowing for future investments that does not bode well as to confidence in the future growth and also that those with cash and wealth are not real willing to risk or spend it right now. 3.7 UE with a high 1's or low 2s on economic growth to me indicates a lot of water treading instead of any real growth. I hope the really low cost of borrowing monies is not a bigger trigger for our government to continue to increase our national debt even at a faster rate.

A lot is made of our huge trade deficits and to many that is concerning and we especially want to to target China for this deficit.
I would be interested to know is how much less economic growth and activity the USA would have if we bought little to none of our goods from China. By that I mean if we produced that much less or bought less due to the hjiger cost of the products would our economy be smaller by an amount equal to or even greater than the trade deficit.
There is a real cost to not having the product and all the economic rollover that goes with that.

Bryce

The PRICE of a bond moves inversely to the yield. Demand goes up....so does the price. But the yield moves ... down because the RATE (amount you receive quarterly) stays the same.

It's a simple percentage

Trade deficits are beneficial to a consumer driven economy.

Yes I agree with your assessment, but we have many who don't understand the economics of the whole issue and many are in significant decision making positions. The manipulation, and tech theft are far larger issues to me than the actual dollar discrepancies but we choose to choose the more politically popular issues instead of the longer term economic and or security issues and concerns.
