Here are some pics from a recent hiking vacation to the White Mtns of NH. If you have nevah been there, you should take a trip sometime. It's my favorite place to hike.

Mt Washington from the east (top of Wildcat D).

My ugly mug on Mt Pierce (that some call Clinton) with Washington in the background.

Was there a year ago, this time of year.

You're right, if you've never been there, it's a must see area.

The leaves were starting to change when we were there.

WISH I HAD MORE TIME TO TRAP!

Glad you like NH....we have a camp site in North Woodstock...exit 32....The Place will be crazy with the leaf peepers in a week or two. The Kancamangus Hiway is a must see in the Fall.

And...as a hikah ......you are probably well aware of the NH48. That means there are 48 ....4,000 foot mountains to climb in NH.

Heck yes Nessie, I'm working on my 4th time through the list. A family friend got me interested in hiking when I was 15 and there were only 46 peaks listed. I finished them 10 years later. The second time I did them with our first boy; mostly 1986-1990, and the third time was with both our boys after the younger got old enough; 1991-1996.

I always wanted to do them again with a grandchild, but alas, our granddaughter has no interest in such things. So I said the heck with it, I'll just do them again myself "post 60." I'll be 65 in a few days and have 35 peaks to go. We did learn we have another grandchild on the way, but by the time he/she is old enough to start I'll be 70. That might be asking a bit much but we will see.

In the early years my hiking times were a fair bit shorter than the estimates given in the AMC Guide, at least when day hiking vs backpacking. I have noticed that as the years have passed and new editions of the guide have been published, the AMC has gotten much better at making time estimates!

Good for you EDP @ 65....Iam not a hiker...but I did hike up Mt Willard and did Mt Manadnock as a Boy Scout...lol. I think hikers, runners, and cyclists are wired different...and it’s not a bad thing. I’d rather be fishing...
