I don't know if he contacted the game warden yet or not. Warden lives about 2 blocks from me. I will mention it to him and see if one is reported missing yet.

Wait for a ad in the paper if the Co gets it then it might end up on the State auction.

Well, that's an improvement over your initial impulse to keep it.

Let's say this happens to a young friend or relative of yours. Your first suggestion to the young person would be to place an ad in the paper? Really?

Perhaps a call to the local warden would have a better chance of returning said canoe to the rightful owner.

You fellas in South Dakota must have a different code to abide by. Sort of like how you fixed your muskrat season for nonresidents, eh? Hmmmm . . . .

So I'm thinking a kid lost it.

If its like our rivers here, it very well may have been tied to a tree high up on the bank, then washed in. Many of our banks have washed back several yards since March. Lots of trees lost.

I would report it to the warden and/or local LEO's... There's usually a given time that must pass and if no one claims it you can keep it.

Might even make a post on Craigslist... I think they have a Lost/Found. Just do like you did here... If they can describe it to you, then they can come claim it.

What brand canoe? If it was a coleman he may have tied it to a tree and then sawed the tree loose....;)
