Report: Trump Will Not Support Universal Background Check Bill

President Donald Trump is reportedly not planning to include House Democrats’ universal background check bill as part of legislation he supports in response to mass shootings.
The Democrat gun control bill is H.R. 8.
Politico reports that a source familiar with the White House “conversation on guns” indicated that Trump is not going to rally behind H.R. 8.
On September 9, 2019, Breitbart News reported that Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) asked Trump to support H.R. 8, thereby giving “political cover” to allow other Republicans to support it.
Schumer said, “President Trump has an historic opportunity to save lives by indicating his support for the House-passed bill [H.R. 8]. Speaker Pelosi and I have repeatedly and personally asked him to do this.”
He added, “[President Trump] can lead his party to support something that the NRA has prevented Republicans from supporting for years. That is why Speaker Pelosi and I sent the letter to him today, urging him to give his party political cover to pass … [the] background check legislation.”
Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) spoke in favor of Trump’s reported rejection of universal background checks, saying, “The things that [the Democrats] are proposing just aren’t realistic and they know that and so it’s designed more to talk to their political base and it’s a lot more about that than I think an actual solution.”

Now that Beto has proposed confiscation, something the Dems have wanted for decades but would never say, nothing will be done. That's unfortunate because something does need to be done to make NICS work as intended. Not universal checks or red flag laws, but measures to address the free members of society being treated with psychoactive drugs that previously would have been institutionalized and ineligible to purchase. Also, to address violent youth offenders currently protected by privacy laws that cause their records to be sealed or expunged once they become adults.

If Trump gives another inch to the dems in the gun control debacle, he will be a one term president for sure. It will make a lot of folks just stay home and not vote and let the chips fall where they may. I have heard this from a lot of folks down here. And they are not planning on just handing their rifles over to the government either.

I'm not worried about the guy we got now. I'm worried about the next one that takes over.

This sentiment is held in our neck of the woods as well.

And for what reason should he get behind the two biggest idiots bill ,when they have not helped him pass a single legislative item and only railroaded them.

I have said this before and I will say it again , ordering a audit of NICs is already well within the powers of the president and the AG at the federal level and at the sate level the Governor and AG. if there is an issue it is how to pay for such an Audit , if any legislation need be passed it would be a line in the budget to fund such an audit. a review of cases starting at present and working backwards clean up the database.

they also have the legal authority to charge anyone who lies on a 4473 , they should start even if it is to mail a 500 dollar ticket to every deny with a letter explaining why and a number to call to get a court date if they feel it is in error.

cci, in MN. one can get his rights back to own a gun after a Dui. I would think it would be possible in Pa. also.

In PA. In 1975 you COULD have been sentenced up to 3 years. Anybody convicted of a misdomeaner that you COULD have been sentenced over 2 years you are not allowed to own a gun. These days the guidelines are different. The attorney generals office asked the ATF to waive it for people in that catagory and they refused.

My cousin knows a guy whose uncle is related to a cousin whose brother in law can’t buy a gun.

Ask a PA. sherriff that gives out the cc permits. They get quite a few denials because of it. Why doesnt the NRA do something about something as simple as that.

Yes. Thank you. I believe all dui charges in 1975 were 1st degree. Now they have different degrees and it take 3 in 5 years.

It takes only 1 misdemeanor #1 which comes with an up to 5yr incarceration. Misdemeanor 1,2,& 3, are awarded by BAC (blood alcohol content) with DUI where I come from.
