Is it worth it, does the state actually do anything about it? I have never had to file a complaint against a contractor but this guy is a must. My youngest who is 7 yo, could have done better work.

He was supposed to replace 730' (over estimate for waste) of flooring which includes 2 bedrooms, hall, entry and living room. Flooring was supposed to be laminate throughout except the 2 bedrooms. He did roughly 415' that which the flooring contractor did he must have been drunk and or on something while working. At least 75% of the work he did will need to be redone and he didn't do the living room too. I am (this word is not acceptable on trapperman). The realtor hired him so either she eats the bill or he does. The realtor needs to be fired too.

Here's a few pics of the work done. The transitions are black rubber throughout.

Who hires a contractor without checking references?

I had no say so in it, the realtor got the contractor, the realtor was chosen by the special master.

Well that's a cluster. No doubt you shouldn't pay but the bigger deal is you went backwards on the re-sale. Anyone looking to buy is going to just figure on new flooring through out. Looks like what people do to rental property, not property to sell. Im guessing she's a property manager as well and used a "handy man" instead of an actual floor covering installer.

I work with many realtors. Most- there are a few good ones- Most hire the cheapest derelict they can hire and they do work just like what you are seeing. I doubt you will get satisfaction. Are you under contract with the realtor?

I did side work for a few realtors, If my work looked like that I would have fired myself. I'd complain to the realtor and have them get it fixed to you satisfaction since they hired them. If the realtor did in fact hire them then I'd contact the realtors licensing board for your area and see if they can help. This definitely did negative value to your home.

The sad part is I told both the special master and the realtor I know several good licensed contractors and they will give me a great deal to do the flooring. But, no they decided the realtor has choice of contractor. I had warned them last week after I saw the tile at the door and that it appears he wasn't going to do the living room as it wasn't stripped and only had enough laminate to do the hall.

Good idea on reporting to the realtor board too. Who knows how many times she has done this type of stuff.

Whoever holds the contract should go after the contractor's bond surety. You do have a copy of the contractor's bond, I hope.

If not you can contact the relevant state agency that keep track of such things. In Alaska that would be the Department of Commerce, Division of Occupational Licensing.

Getting There, I am staying on top of them. The special master will be going to the house tomorrow to look at the work done, even though I sent them 16 photos of the issues.

James, the realtor holds the contract, but I have emails with the contractors name and about the work to be done. Here it is the Regulation, Licencing Department that I would report to.

See what the special master says but if it’s not what you want, which would be full replacement, I would report them both and if you have a relationship with a good attorney you could tell him and he would give you some advice about what to do without charging you. The attorney we have will do that, but if he has to do something besides giving advice he will charge us, which is only right that he charge for doing “physical” work.

Have you paid anyone for the work yet. None, partial, or in full yet?

Bob I am meeting with the special master tomorrow afternoon.
Scout1, simply put, I had to pay half upfront to the special master who then was to get the contractor paid.

Well unfortunately for you the installer is inexperienced, I am assuming he’s not just a terrible installer just in over his head. Too many people now days think they are professionals and worth a million dollars after they have done something twice.

That is some poor workmanship. I have seen work like that and call the people who do it hacks. They make it hard for professional installers like myself to get work.

Wish I had more time to trap....
