My rule of thumb is to mentally turn the horns down along the head of the antelope if they are close to the same it's roughly a 13" buck . I'd stop in a sporting goods store or two and look over any antelope mounts I also look for bases that you would fill you hands with or large diameter and not spindly. Unless you want a silver tipped buck those are cool the only antelope I've ever put on the wall has those. Shoot straight and have fun, don't forget a good pair of comfortable leather gloves and knee pads are nice to just in case.

I'm heading to WY in a few days. I have studied maps, read articles, looked at pictures of bucks and have my gear list completed. I'm heading to a good unit that takes 5+ points to draw as a nonresident. I'm looking for any tips or tricks that might help me bring home a respectable buck. My goal is a mid-70" buck. I have 3 days to hunt so I can't be picky, but I don't want to shoot a little one by mistake. I have hunted Antelope twice with archery gear and have taken one buck, I am not a expert. Honestly if it is rifle you wont have much of an issue finding and killing a buck. Best advice I can give is if you are in a area with a mixed of private/public get ONYX so that you can make sure you stay on the public land or land you get permission for. Dont be afraid to knock on doors and ask permission, most ranchers I have met do not value antelope like they do deer and elk.

Glass. You can see more country than you can walk with good glass. You can glass from the PU.

If you have time order Mike Eastmans book on Antelope hunting and read the field judging section. Use the ears to judge horn length 2 1/2 time ears is a good buck ( avg ear length is about 6 inches) look for the bottom of the prongs to be above the tip of the ear and one ear length above the prong it self leaving that half ear covering the prong try to put one ear length from the back of the horn to the tip of the prong or longer look for a horn that is wider at the base then 1 1/2 to 2 times as wide as the eye look for mass above the prong it should appear heavy not spindly horns or prongs that curl in or back can be hard to judge and most people under guess due to that curl Heavy horns will also look smaller due to the mass so use reference points like eyes and ears rule of 7 is 15 inch horn + 7 in prong + 7 in base circumference + 7 inch second mass circumference measurement + 7 inches of mass circumference in 2 spots (combined) above the prong is over an 80 inch goat Hope that helps and good luck Its some of the best meat there is https://blog.eastmans.com/what-makes-an-80-antelope/

J Brooks did you run a tape on that buck? Looks like a good one.
From the pics I'd say its 82 inches No, never did. Taxidermist thought it should be at least high 70s. I just thought it had a cool shape, nice hooks and was a great memory so I got it mounted for her.

I would almost guarantee that you harvest a 13 inch goat in 3 days. They are rutting like crazy and will find some great bucks herding and watching over his girls. Make sure you report back with pictures and good luck.

Yes, but American antelope are in America. In Africa, the males are called "rams" not "bucks."
I've heard they're related to mountain goats. Males goats are "billies."
