At first inspection, I thought it would make a nice belt, then I saw the quarter. Be lucky to get an ankle bracelet out of that thing..

The Dekay's Brown Snake is very common in Ohio too, but most people never notice them, because they are tiny and mostly hide. I have seen most of them as they are being slurped down by a friend's red tailed hawks, while we are practicing falconry. It's not uncommon for the hawks to catch several a hunting trip.

Here's a Dekay's Brown Snake that was in my driveway.

It looks like a red bellied snake to me.If the belly is bright orange, that's it.They are very similar to the Dekay. and inhabit similar terrain. The Dekay's belly is more yellow, possibly pink, not nearly as brilliant. You have both in your State.

Those are good and totally harmless. The only type of people who would kill one on purpose are women and women.

They are great little snakes, very well tempered.

Red belly snake not a Dekays we have a lot of them here in MN but most people never notice them due to their size

Very mild mannered and have never heard of one biting someone
