Several years ago I found several Anhinga nest. At the time I had some of the most northern recorded nest. Now I have found them up into VA. They are everywhere I go.
Last year I found and recorded a flock of 25 Black Bellied Whistling Duck. It is the largest recorded flock in NC. Never seen them before.
This week I had dropped the water level in a swamp and the Blue Herons and Great White Egrets piled in. Flocks of 50 and more. I saw some white birds get up through the trees and it looked like their wings were white and black. I quit work and went into recon mode with my binoculars and Power Shot pocket camera.I got close enough to get some pictures, and I was correct, they were Wood storks. I have never seen one in the wild before and in one day I saw around 40.
These three species are normally in FL. I guess weather is pushing them north.
As bad as summer beaver trapping is there's always a bright side.
In the background is an Anhinga and the Wood Stork is the white bird.

That is cool varmintshooter. I'm working in south Texas and just saw some wood storks fly over yesterday. The natural world has a precious pearl to be revealed everyday for those that look. Thanks for sharing. Chancey

Cool. The only place I ever saw anhinga and woodstorks was the Everglades.

Dark meat. Similar to whooping crane, but more closely a cross between coyote and crow with a fishy taste IMO. I wouldn't recommend it. smile

I respectfully disagree. To me they taste like a cross between bald eagle and spotted owl, with just a hint of California condor. laugh

I've seen those aningha birds in Western PA. Lawrence county to be exact. One or two would hang out on little islands in the one lake at the gravel pit I worked in. Never knew what they were and tries to figure it out! Mystery solved! Thanks

After 15” of rain in May. I saw what I would call shore birds here that I didn’t even know existed. Crazy how they just showed up.

The fun thing about bird watching is that it can be done anywhere at anytime of the year at any level. There are people that keep a life list of bird they have seen. Some list are birds they have seen all over the world other only in there back yards. Always keep your eye to the sky.
