Just pulled back in my driveway here in Tennessee after a 6 HR drive back from my place in Ohio. I left out at 4 yesterday evening after working in the eain all day and drove up to my place in southern Ohio. Got there around 11 and climbed in bed, got up at 5 this morning and at daylight was out on the farm building a shooting house. We've had a ladder stand in this spot overlooking the crop fields for years but it was as uncomfortable as any stand I've ever sit in because of the knotty tree it was in. So me and my dad decided to but a good stand up so we could actually hunt in comfort, and take my boys in the next few years too. So after working all day we got it done around 2 and put a few cams out then hit the road for the 6 HR trip back, so I can be back to work tomorrow. It was a little rough but when we go back hunting I think it'll be well worth the effort. Here's a couple pics [Linked Image]

Fantastic, WTG RM.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Keith my place is in Morgan County right on the muskinghum river, and yea upstate I used the HME brand of the elevator brackets. They make it a lot easier to setup and are very sturdy. I can't wait to be able to sit with my dad and kids and watch them take deer out of this stand. May even get me a good video camera. Lol

Hope Snowy doesn't see it or you will get chastised to death about it. If he doesn't use one its not the right way to hunt!

I'd brush that thing in like a duck blind as high as I could. Even if it was just cut saplings leaning against it all around. Maybe even try to get some burlap on it and over the windows.

I built one once and have been hunting a diff corner of the woods ever since. lol. (there wasn't anything wrong with it, I may have just built it in the wrong spot.) double lol.

I always figured you were too old to hack it or just plain lazy to have such a contraption...... until I built one a few years ago for my wife. I gotta admit, it's pretty darn nice to sit in a leather high back office chair with the heater blasting as you watch the downpour or snow fall and the branches whip around in the wind. And for the record, I only use it when I take the kids, not for myself lol. You can make special memories with the youngsters in those blinds if you can keep them comfortable enough to stay out there for a while when the weather is nasty. I plan on being in it at daybreak tomorrow with my 7yr old who is currently obsessed with squirrel hunting. We start out in it so I can watch deer while he knaps for a bit, then we go after the tree rats. Built mine almost exclusively from materials left over from my side jobs.

Yea I can't wait to take my 7 and 9 yr old boys and be able to sit with them in comfort. May even sit with the old man some and watch him stick one. This spot was hard to hunt with the wind we normally get hoping that it'll help some with that too

Read a story once about two guys sitting in an elevated deer blind in a southern state .They had heat, a grill,a spotting scope ,a range finder ,coolers and nice comforting chairs along with other things to make their hunt successful .They where talking about someone they knew that went on a mountain lion with dog hunt .The one said it does not seem like much of a hunt to me .They just sat and waited till the dogs treed the lion and then went and killed .But as the hunting population ages the hunters have become more inclined to enjoy things that help them have a comfortable hunt
