Checking to see if you Wisconsin guys/gals have been seeing many this year? I'll be up there in about a month to give the grouse a good scare. (Not very good at hitting them). Just curious to see if your hatch rate was decent this year.

I believe the 2019 Drumming Reports for Northern Wisconsin are better than last years baseline and projected to be near a cyclical high, I'm not sure how scientific that process is? However, I'm seeing a lot more grouse from my tree stand in NW Wisconsin than the previous few years. I hope you have a great hunt!

Been in the woods a lot this summer and early fall around our place in Langlade county and have only scared up a few. Numbers seem to be down in our immediate area, but that's not necessarily indicative of the statewide population.

A guy at the tavern said West Nile Virus killed most and the turkeys got the rest. sick

It's been too warm and too thick to put much time into it yet...not ever the road-hunting, ground pounders are putting in much effort.

But, I've shot a few over the dogs and will put more time in it when it cools off next week.

Kre, nice brace of grouse you got there. Currently trying to decide between staying local for grouse this weekend or heading down south for chukar and huns.

Kre, is that double a 16?

I was out checking deer cameras the other night and flushed 6 without trying. I may break out the 28 gauge single shot or 410 double and see if I can find a dumb one this weekend.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Finally found a few areas with good birds...10 partridge the last 3 days.

The ATV road hunting, ground pounders are getting more than their fair share. I had a guy idle up on me yesterday and brag about how he doesn't even need to get off the 4 wheeler. He was on his way to dump corn by his deer stand.

But my dogs and I are having a great time!

We met half a dozen grouse hunters in the southern national forest section in Taylor County Thursday and Friday. Most were disappointed in the numbers flushed and also stated they seemed to be more in tighter pockets then typical. Thursday was really nice and quiet with little wind, Friday was different.

Got on some this weekend with little effort. The key is just like said before in finding the pockets. In my area of Douglas county the weird logging practices have made it a bit more difficult to find good numbers consistently. Everything I have found with GOOD number have been along water. Little running crick with thick cover. Good luck everyone
