As long as it is kept dry, I don't think it has a use before date on it. The reason that you have to mix it is that the two parts separate are pretty much inert. No chemical reaction takes place by mixing the stuff.

I would be most concerned about the 'legality' of possessing / storing it in an 'as mixed' condition.

Just say'in it is illegal to transport that after it has been mixed without miles of red tape and permits. DON'T get caught with a mixed up batch in your car!

You are correct Finster. You can use as directed on location. Mixing and transporting is transporting an explosive. Premixing off location makes you a manufacturer, better have a license.

i'll do a whole lot of studing on this before i do it if i ever do it.

Well a" friend" told me its OK to transport it when mixed as long as it is in a bag marked fertilizer and you also have a rake and a shovel in the back of the truck.

My ATF inspector (who pays me annual visits) and I got into a pretty interesting discussion about Tannerite and the ATF's view of it. The attached link pretty much explains it; The two components (ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder) are unregulated materials UNTIL they are combined. They then become a regulated explosive that are very tightly regulated.

I have an explosive manufacturing license which is required to legally combine the two materials; it's a difficult license to obtain. Messing with Tannerite is getting really close to the edge of the law.

Whatever you do do not store the mixed material; it's potentially a very dangerous material, plus in some instances it's illegal to possess without the proper license., and it's never legal to transport it without complying with rigorous DOT requirements. Use it immediately upon mixing the components.
