I found an ad on Gunsinternational for a rifle I've lusted after, a new Nosler Heritage in an acceptable caliber (.300 WM). The ad was from a Cabela's store in Hamburg, PA. The ad said, "Was: $1789.99, Now: $1610.88."

I liked the gun--it has outstanding wood--but I thought the price was high. After wrestling with the impulse for a week or so, I sent an email to the store offering to buy the rifle for $1,500. As a sweetener, I offered to charge the purchase to my Cabela's Club MasterCard. The reply I got the next day floored me.

"Hello James,
The price has been reduced to $1199.99. Please contact the Hamburg Gun Library at 610-929-7075 to make the purchase arrangement.
Thank you
The Hamburg Gun Library Team"

My fingers couldn't dial fast enough. Was it the same rifle? It was. I hastened to make the arrangements to have the rifle shipped to my local Cabela's. So I have another rifle on the way. There can never be just one.

And more importantly: how can any sales person be stupid enough to name a price that undercuts a buyer's offer by so much?

I've bought two other rifles on good deals from Cabela's. Now to look for my Beto AR, and I'll be done with this rifle-buying binge for a while. I wonder what ARs Cabela's has for sale?

Sounds like you got a real good deal!

On the salesperson giving you a lower price - they get nothing for selling that gun. It makes no difference to them if you pay $2,000 or $2, or don't buy the gun at all. No sales incentives at the Cableas/Bass Pro mega land.

I thought they got bonuses for selling amounts of certain brands, like Swarovski. I know that's what Hupprich told me once, when he was working at Sportsmen's Warehouse.

Nope, no incentives to sell anything but the credit card.

I bought my wife's Winchester XPR 30.06 from Cabela's. Between the mail in rebate and sale price, it was a deal I couldn't pass up. Come to think of it, I also got my Anderson stripped lower from them as well for $50.

I worked for Cabelas for a while. No incentives for selling merchandise and very little incentive for selling the stupid credit card.

I've always thought cabelas/bass pro shops was way over priced on firearms. Seems to me the always charge close to what MSRP is. My mom bought a Sig P226 there and paid almost 400 more than she would have paid if she bought locally

My gunsmith told me he was in there at one time that someone was buying gun and told them I can sell it to you $200 less then you are pay for it here . The person from what it sound like was not happy after they paid for it at Cabelas
I had bought a crossbow at Scheels that I price at Cabelas and it was price about $400 less then Cabelas just like the price on crossbow bolts I got some this Feb from walmart for about $21 they had them on sale to clear them and then in Mar they drop to $15 that is for 3 pack and was in Cabelas about over week ago and for the same pack of bolts they want about $60 for them. when the regular price of $28 and change for the same ones .
