I been seeing some ran over lately. Some fresh where would start to make bait out of some? Ground or cube does it need to be tained? Would else do I need to add? What other ingredients to add to bait?

They make a real good bait. I gut them, then chop off the feet head and tail. grind the rest. hide bones and meat. I taint mine for a couple three days in hot weather and add sodium benzoate. some rat glands and castor. you can add in all kinds of stuff or nothing at all. taint or use fresh. use in chunks as well as ground. I like to add stuff cause I catch more fur. sometimes the animal that find it isn't hungry. like fishing when they wont bite. so I add a few things to hopefully get them to at least put their nose on it before walking away.

If you have enough I would make two batches. Some fresh /slightly tainted preserved as is. Then a batch with some ingredients. There is a time every season that you will find that natural odors are more attractive and better accepted with confidence by some animals. Some factors influence this response.

When so many various multi odored lures and baits are used you can get cautious behavior and suspicious predators as the season progresses particularly when they get some trapping pressure. Keep it simple at times when you feel you have visitations but have tentative interest in what you are using. There are too many trappers using too much lure and loaded baits that can hurt their success at times. This can lead to frustration.

In many of these situations it may be another factor causing a refusal or dis interest. Maybe a similar set and odor circumstance has been encountered before by an animal and they aren't going to commit to it for any reason regardless of how good it may smell or seem. These are situations it may take time to experience and understand better. Or just take it from experience, it happens.

Gut,remove head and tail, and cut into walnut sized pieces with the hide still on.
Place cubes into a glass jar and bury under a shade for three month.
This method has been around longer than I have, and works great.
Back in the day the old timers would use ol stray house cat as well with method.

I know around my uncle's hay feids I can catch them. Just set the 160 in the holes. I have to drive thru low land going to work. All kinds of green stuff for them to eat. I think that's why there so many ran over. I have a old hand grinder. I leave the hair on? Gut them too?
