I picked up this 2 1/2 Newhouse. It has teeth and has two slots in the pan. Any information about age and value would be appreciated. Were the slots to attach the metal fish to the pan?

The #2 1/2 Newhouse was patented in 1882. Your trap was made in the 1920's. The slots in the pan are for what is called a breast plate, that raised the height of the pan up above the teeth when the trap is set.

I had a 1882pat. for a while. No pan, so let it go. The patent is stamped on the
underside of the base. I had never seen one stamped like that.

The 1882 patented traps have riveted teeth and a sideways stamped, lip edged pan, rather that the cut slots. There is a "patent applied for" base stamp as well as the ""patented Aug. 29, 1882" stamp". A few traps have both stamps.

Thanks for the information snakecollector, this trap was one of 14 traps with "teeth" that I found at a pawn shop. In addition to the 2 1/2 there were three LPCs and some traps that had been modified with nails and staples.

This trap was also in the pile.

All I can read is what looks to be part of "Connecticut", that and the chain makes me think a Blake and Lamb.

That trap is a B&L. Most likely a #4 double under with Seminole teeth. This teeth are factory original.

B&L traps are notorious for having lightly stamped pans. You can clean them all day and you still can’t see the stamping.

That type of chain and chain attachment is typical of many B&L traps.

Thank you snakecollector and wissmiss. Can you give me the approximate value of these two traps?
