Logan and I finally got a little time to go out. We flushed around 20 birds this weekend, likely several were the same birds. Logan had a chance to "swat" one on the ground but he had never seen one all puffed out drumming and wasn't sure it was a grouse so he didn't shoot. It would have been an easy shot but I was far more proud of him for his attention to the laws and safety. If you aren't 100% sure then don't shoot.
We hunted with 410 single shots the whole weekend. Nothing like adding a little sport to it! I accidentally hit one on the wing Saturday and punished a stupid one yesterday for letting Logan walk by it. The grouse are really hitting the apple trees now so it is pretty predictable where they are going to be. Good memories anyway.

There are 3 more here that I need to take a chicken with yet this year. A hammerless 410, a 28 gauge single and then the old 410 double with rabbit ear hammers. I like a challenge!

Nice to see the grouse numbers coming back up again. Haven't been enough around here to even think about hinting them. Always fun to hunt them but haven't done so for a few years and miss it. Congrats on a good weekend with Logan!

Excellent pics. Love the old single shot shotguns, classics from yesteryear.
Your 410 (hammerless) looks a lot like my Savage Model 220, 410. I've been looking to add another Savage 220, but never see them anywhere.

I think your son was having way too much fun grin

It is a 220 actually. I have a line on a nice clean 20 gauge as well that I hope to add to the closet in the next couple of weeks. I really enjoy hunting with the low tech, small gauge stuff.

A line on a Savage 220 in 20 ga. Well snap it up and if you don't want it, please let me know (assuming Bubba hasn't done any mods on it wink ).

You can’t beat that, good times. Nice guns too. My grandson just inherited my 20 gauge, it’s a model 37 Winchester that my dad handed down to me about 50 years ago. I hope he gets as much enjoyment out of it as I did.

Nice numbers! Where we hunt is in prime northern MN grouse country and numbers have not been good the last couple years. I will hunt for the first time this weekend.

Good job, Rob and Logan! Great photos too. Cool firearms you have pictured there. I have a few firearms I would like to take on a grouse hunt or two but the grouse numbers are down so bad around here that I have seen more bears this past year than I have grouse. I saw one bear.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!
