For the last 2 hrs. I've been trying to tune 1 KO.
As all have said they're shipped all tuned for hippo's.
I've filed on the dog. Filed the end of the dog and the night latch, and where the dog meets the jaws. There's no burrs everything is smooth.
I'd bet it's still close to 10#.
I read the thread on Just Trapping about tuning them. It gave me ideas but no help.
Might be some new Extremes and Jr's up for sale.
I've only tuned 1 dogless before a Bridger #2. With some filing I got it to around 4#.
But these KO's are started to make me mad.
Brad.

If they are coated I can probably get you going pretty quick. When I emailed Kendall with a rant about the exact same thing his response was "No trap is ready for the ground right out of the box" and "I hate that internet myth". Even if not coated I can tell you what he told me to do and what he does. Set them and see if all the pans sit level. I already know the answer but you will need to start there. It's not that difficult and once you get them they are crazy heavy duty canine medicine.

Might be some new Extremes and Jr's up for sale. After filing and tuning, waxing will help a bit. If you are fed up, pm me. I'm interested in the Jr.'s.

All I did with mine is level the pan before waxing and then adjust the pan bolt, after the dip in wax, to get where I wanted them. They sure seem to be up to the task of catching wolverine. I bought the treated ones, black, and ran them through the wax pot. Edit. ** I don’t have the JR’s**

Made it almost 3 years without censor!

I have no experience with this trap however traps should be adjusted after treating (protecting) to your preferences. Traps are made of steel which we all know collects rust.

Thanks guys. I'll try your ideas.
I have both kinds of traps. Extreme and Jrs. Both coated and uncoated.
Also I think them being 4 coiled has a lot to do with the tension.

OK here's whats up.
The 1st trap I tried to tune was a 4 coil OL/IL uncoated Extreme.
Last night when i quit it was somewhere about 10#. Stopped and got some bow wax to try.
Well now if a fly farted on it, it will go off. It's less then 2#.
I'm looking for atleast 4#. Don't want any grinners, coons, etc.
Tried another trap. Extreme 4 coil OL. Uncoated. Filed a few spot. Nailed it. Repeated 4# snaps. No wax.
I'm thinking I might have it. Spoke to soon!
Next up, Extreme 4 coil OL/IL coated.
Tried to set the trap. The dogside jaw wouldn't even go over the dog. Not even close. Filed the dog, and the dog holder on the jaws. Nothing.
Loosened the dog nut on the bottom of the trap(Thanks NW Trapper for that hint) and moved the dog in, but now the trap won't fire. The pan is hitting the springs. Moved the pan out and filed on the dog and dog holder on the jaws. I can get the jaw over the dog but still have heavy pan tension.
What I think I'll do is work on the ones that are uncoated and OL first. Then tackle the hard ones.
I've always wonder why people were selling the Extreme traps that were new! Well???
Thanks for the help.
