Ain't had frog legs in years. Bull frogs are delicious. When I was young my nephew and I would go giggin every week. Some times was more exciting than others. Like the time we was in slough up to within a couple inches of the tops of our hip boots and literally got attacked by 2 cotton mouths. My nephew was screaming like a little girl. I gigged one and couldn't do any thing with him for fear of him getting off, so I grabbed my nephews gig and got the other one. 50 years later and I still get goose bumps, lol. Snakes in the day is one thing but in the dark is another.
It was nothing to get 75 or 100 big frogs a night, but those days are long gone around here.
All the sloughs and old ponds have been pretty much done away with now and the new ponds and lakes just ain't frog habitat. But usually I will hear a croaker or two every spring and don't bother them, but just reminisce the good old days.

Same here it looks like that frogger game here early in the mornings salamanders all over also. The things with toads in if a dog mouths one they react to it so they must give off a secretion of some kind I'd check that out.

Frog giggin' is fun, but the most enjoyable thing is to catch them in daytime with a rod, line, and trout fly. Dangle the fly in front of a frog, and zap! He'll snap up the fly and hook himself.

My property borders a twenty acre swamp and I built a pond near the property line. We have tons of frogs and toads, always have. With as wet as it was the last year and a half there are more now then ever.

My kids grew up catching them by hand. Even the dogs get in on the act. One lab would wade around the edge and take ten minutes to creep up on a frog. He'd grab it and prance around proudly with frog legs hanging out of his mouth. Then he'd spit it out mostly unharmed and start the hunt again. He caught less than half he stalked.

A buddy and I used to hunt them with .22's when we were in our teens, we shot boatloads. Frog's legs are delicious. Been forever since I ate them.

Eh...wot?

When my dad and my brother and I went after them we use to use a 22lr and also a rod and reel with a red rag tie to a small hook or and red fishing lure and alot of times the bull frogs will grab it .

I would be afraid of getting toxins from the skin on the meat while skinning them.

No to toads. Like James said, frog gigging is fun, but jigging them is a blast

While we are on the subject of amphibians, I ran across this Pacific giant salamander last week, pretty neat critters.
I wasn't tempted to try eating it.

Speaking of big amphibians, I had two hellbenders in my pond last year. One of them was about a foot long. That was a first for me in the thirty years I've been here.

Eh...wot?

There used to be a bridge near here a farmer built to get to a field. I would sit on that bridge and fish. The frogs would sit in the shade of the bridge and I would put the hook in a worm about halfway so he would wiggle a lot and lower my line down in front of the frog and presto had me a frog.

Also I got my first BB gun when I was six and would shoot rabbits in my moms green bean patch. One day I shot one in the eye and as he was doing the death flop, I decided to help him along by using my gun as a club. Well a couple days later I was frog hunting in a little pond and shot a frog and he swam out a little and I was using my gun to rake him back to me when my gun fell in the water all except the stock which I was still holding. The water was deep and I had to get me dad to retrieve the rest. He wasn't mad but calmly told not to be using the gun for a club. Also I shot a lot of frogs that got away, when I was about 8 I convinced my dad I needed a 22 pellet gun, he got me one that used CO2 cartridges, wasn't worth 15 cents. I still had trouble with the frogs getting away. At 10 I convinced my dad I needed more power and he let me have my grandpas' 22 Scout (which he had bought out of the Sears catalogue for $2.50). Well I started bringing in the frogs then. And them poor old frogs was full of 22 pellets and rusty BB's. My dad all that time said I was just missing the frogs but I knew better.
Also I learned if a frog was out in deep water just to shoot directly under him and it would shock him then I could use a stick to retrieve him.

After I got married we had an old cat that would go down to our little pond and catch my frogs. It made me mad too. But one day she brought a leopard frog to the house and had froth all over her face. I was about ready to shoot her, but my wife said NO, she's eating a leopard frog. I did shoot the old cat when she was 18 and was sick beyond recovery.
