Im going to be spending the winter in western WY and I plan to do a little yote trapping. I'll be focusing on areas between 7,000 and 8,000 feet in elevation. Just curious when coyotes in this part of the country start to prime up. I'm thinking they oughta be good by early November but i'd like to hear some opinions from guys who trap in similar areas. Thanks

Trapping off snowshoes? 7-8,000 feet will usually be deep in snow in winter, and maybe fall

If your in the Laramie area bring a snowmachine and though we are not Western Wy it will be the same up there most of the roads are closed by then also.

As long as yotes are still hot I'd go in early and get the numbers while you can get around.

Well worth going after Oct 20th if it's anything like Montana coyote I trapped at 6800 to 7500 foot back in 1991 sold to a local fur buyer back in MN for $55 back then, guessing the auction houses were in that $75 to $85 range.Back then I didn't have a understanding of semi heavy and heavy guessing 30 to 50% went heavy maybe a few more.I was trapping near Big Sky Mt.up doe creek road up to Bucks ridge some pretty mountain coyotes. If I remember right I think I trapped between on the 22 and 31st came back to Mn to hunt with our deer gang and sold to Jensen fur seed and wool in Roseau Mn.I lived in Montana from 1989 to 1999.

Not much desert around Jackson Hole. If you will be near Pinedale yotes should be good to go November 1st, fully prime by November 15th. You might try contacting (search for) StarValleyTrapper, a trapper and fur buyer and a Tman regular.

That's what I think, I'd rather get 3/4+ price on a fur than no fur, deep snow, coyote got taken by others

Winter can get real serious in WY
