For what, what's your goal?
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I’m gonna vote 10/22. Have one and the sky’s the limit. Just wish I could find the right affordable wood stock for it...

That's asking a lot Wolfie in the now without the 10/22 Ruger as far as commercialization. There are some old school stuff that some can lead you to but gonna be pricey, which stinks. We used to be able to tweak but now it's based on part availability. Best wishes bud!

I have looked at boyds....I should look again. Didn’t have much cash last time I looked but things have changed, little extra jingle in my pocket now. I had a lever action a long time ago that I really liked, pretty sure it was a henry. I don’t think the lever gun will lend itself to modification well but i really liked it. Matter of fact I might just look to buy one now.

10/22 if you want to play with lots of options , a savage MKII-FV if you just want to shoot little groups.
you don't even have to buy a ruger , the TC10/22 is parts compatible , then brownells has receivers and barrels you can build form the ground up or start with a base rifle.
my most recent one is a 10/22 deluxe , got it at fleet farm on a sale for 249.99
first thing I do is mod the bolt hold back to auto release 2nd I switch the factory sling mounts for the quick disconect tyope and add a GI web sling , add a drip of good wood glue to the hole before threading them in take it appart and clean and lube with hornady one shot dry lube mount an extended EGW scope rail 2-7x32 Vortex need more mags 3-4 at least kydex cheek riser , it s a home brew but simple to make torque the action screw to 20 inch pounds at the begining fo each day
on my other one I free floated the barrel and glass bedded the action , I am going to do that to this one but so far it is shooting very well as long as the torque stays the same on the action bolt. I am also going to do the trigger soon
shoot 10 rounds in the center of a 1 inch sighter square at 25 meters when I do my part.
some friends play with the 10/22 further yet they cut the breach face square it up and re cut the chamber to a bentz then re-crown , and free float they add wood to the stock also make the grip better and dress it up with some contrasting wood they have tested and can get fairly consistent 1 inch groups at 100 yards they use all stock parts and work form there , the factory tapered barrel can really shoot if you free float it
the boyds thumb hole stocks are nice
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Im pretty sure the 10/22 is gonna be the most modifiable of all of them. Dont see many aftermarket parts for any other makes and models of other rifles. 10/22 parts for days though.

Wolf sorry I missed the second day at Brandon. Got slammed at work. The 10/22 is the right choice. There is a ton of stuff you can do to it and most of it isn't too pricey. I've 5 or 7 I think can't remember anymore. Some are tricked out for coolness some for accuracy. Have fun with it. Warning they can be an ongoing project.
