A buddy of mine is trying his hand at making knives and I asked him to make a pelter for me. I gave him some old antlers I had for him to use in his builds and this is what he came up with.

I am hoping it works as nice as it looks.

It looks very nice. Allas its not going be that practical because of the bend in the handle. I have made knives in the past using caribou antlers and whenever I used a piece like that, the knife feels strange when turning the bade in my hand.

That was my thought but I will use it and see if it works on some types of animal better than others. Either way will look good in the fur room.

I believe so he is a jack of all trades and a tinkerer so nothing he makes suprises me. He and I used to make lamps out of whatever free junk we found at garage sales I still have an 18lbs green bowling ball lamp we made in middle school. His craftmanship has come a long way lol.

The blade looks too thick to be practical, and I would want a straight handle. Not trying to be critical, just some thoughts. The craftsmanship looks great.

Looks nice but not very practical IMO. Will be very awkward to use with that curved handle IMO.

Have him try the leg bone of a deer or bear. Some of those are very straight.Cut the ends of and remove the marrow and degrease. They polish up real well.

Beautiful work.

Really like the blade shape and that cutting edge on the top for cartilage and tendons.
I have a pelter quite similar to it but without that serrated edge in it, can’t tell ya how
Many times I wished I had that on the top side like that.

Have to go with others though on the curved handle, I think if he was a pelter he probably
Would not have done that, but the knife is a looker as it is , I’d give it a work out just to
To help him fix the next one up 👍
