Many folks think The Battle of the Little Bighorn was the worst defeat inflicted by the Indians on US troops. It wasn’t, not even close. In 1791 General St Clair led 1000 men into northwest Ohio. His army was crushed by 1000 Miami, Shawnee and a few members of other eastern tribes. Known as St. Clair’s defeat, with around 900 casualties, over 600 dead, it was an absolute catastrophe. With native forces suffering only around 60 casualties, it was an astonishing victory. But, like the Little Bighorn, it ultimately led to defeat. In another parallel, the final blow came 20years after each respective engagement. Like wounded knee and the Sioux, Tecumseh’s death at the Battle of the Thames, ended Ohio Indians struggle for their country. I live well south of present day Ft. Recovery where the battle took place, in the heart of Tecumseh country.

Missouri is "The Show Me State" but is lesser known as "The Cave State" with over 6300 recorded caves, and growing. I seem to stumble onto a cave or 2 almost every trapping season Here's a cave opening from one I found last year Michael I never knew there were so many caves in our state, I’ve never seen any in my neck of the woods. Missouri is the birthplace of Jessie James, he was born about 40 min south of where I live The pony express starting point was in St Joseph Mo which is about 30 miles west of me Funny you should mention Jesse James in our Cave talks... "Jessie James — After a botched robbery attempt he hid out in Tennessee. In 1879 he decided to head for Independence, MO to assemble a new gang. On his way through, he signed* his name in the Mark Twain Cave which is dated September 22, 1879, sixteen days before he robbed a train in Independence with his new crew, and only three years before his death." Most Missouri Caves are located south of interstate 70. Bunch in my area

Cable, wire rope, was invented in the small town where I went to school. There is now a small park, with a model of the Brooklyn Bridge.

My cable company, Service Electric, invented cable.
Back in the 1940's John Walson and his wife owned an electric appliance store in Mahanoy City in PA.. In 1947, the Walsons began selling television sets at their appliance store. It was impossible to receive the three Philadelphia network stations in Mahanoy City because the town is surrounded by mountains. An antenna was built on a nearby mountain and eventually a cable was run to his store. Along the way, several families were connected to his community antenna system. Three television sets were displayed in the window of the store. Many people congregated in front of the store to view either channel 3, 6, or 10 from Philadelphia. As a result, a new industry was started in America.
Eh...wot?

Pcr2 there's to many interesting things about Montana one of my favorites is that I used to travel on the Bozeman Trail to go check beaver traps . Many of the streams I trapped them in where the same streams trapped by the Mountain men . The first fur trading fort after the Lewis and Clark Expedition was at the junction of the Big Horn and Yellowstone rivers.

WOW,this turned out really interesting to say the least.
Ian Woodcock"50yrs a hunter-trapper"travelled my backyard.
my property sits at the meeting of the 2 rivers in the area and was a meeting place for indians and white men alike.small cornfield by my house still has the black circle when its plowed said to be where they met and bargained in spring.

NM has the oldest and highest (elevation) capital in the nation. Santa Fe was also founded 10 years before the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. 75% of roads are unpaved. Sidenote.....they are smoother than paved roads Taos Pueblo has been inhabited for over 1000 years. Wine making in the US started in NM by a Franciscan Monk in the 1600's.

The City of Rhinelander, Wisconsin was founded in 1882 as a logging hub. It was named as a tribute to F.W. Rhinelander, president of a large railroad company that agreed to place a rail spur into the area giving the community another source of transportation to larger cities. F.W. Rhinelander never visited the city named in his honor!

Johnny Appleseed came through here, we got some Amish, place about 7 miles East has some good ice cream. That's it.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....
