I have two hunting beasts. A German Shorthair and a 3 legged English setter. That’s my kind of thinking! Good bird dog is a true hunting beast!
Everything the left touches it destroys

Idaho, meant to tell you on your earlier post that a rancher I knew in central Montana had a 3 legged dog, he was missing a left front leg. He was a Lab and I don't know if he ever had a proper name, so being a land surveyor I called him Tripod. I shot a good many pheasants, sharptails and huns over that dog, we were buds and nobody else wanted much to do with him. Funny thing, while a Lab is a flushing dog per say, when I would hunt alone with this guy he would point. Miss that dog. Zim

Mainly because they are not full of advertisements or loaded with a bunch of BS. ol'dad

I'm hoping she can still hunt, even if in a limited capacity. I've heard either first-hand or second-hand of numerous working dogs (cattle dogs, hounds, bird dogs) missing front legs who can still do their jobs. In any case, yeah I think that was the better choice over a surgery that may or may not work.
