I'm not an expert, but it looks like an old meter box that someone rigged up as basically just a junction box. Normally there would be a large black cable on the upper left, a large red cable on the upper right, and the bare copper in the middle, and the same configuration on the bottom. The top comes from the pole to the box, power goes though the meter, and then to your breaker panel though the bottom cables. Someone took the meter out (or it never had a meter), and wired it up to just pass electricity though. The red wire appears to not be in use. I assume the large red and black cables are coming from the generator?

This is the box between the generator and the cabin, what can you tell me about it?
I need to ask a few questions first >>> 1) Did this meter base have a meter installed in it or was there just a cover over this meter base? 2) Do you have another meter base that has a meter in it before the generator? That type of meter base (5 terminal) is an instrument metering meter base. A base like that will have a CT or 2 CT's and will measure current for large usage services.

So , you aren't getting power from a power supplier like a utility or co-op then right? If not it is a jerry rig job and used as a junction box.
As far as the meter base (5 Term) I could explain that device and could show explain to you how they are wired etc.. I am a EE. Be safe.
