I gonna be mixing up some bait soon an have everthing needed, I hear alot about cheap Kat food be used, it is one of main items for bait as well as dry corn, I have accidentally got 1 cat in dp that can ever Rember. So cats are not prone to get caught in DPs ? How about birds with corn mix in bait ? Never ever had this happen , u would think cats with cat food be used would be all over it as many cats running countryside, I not interested. In this, looking for some feedback , before start mix up bait soon, it also have dry jello flavor powder mix in with it

I have mice eat every bait combo I ever made. I use fish food pellets mixed with livestock sweet feed 50/50 I also add cheap dry cat or dog food. I top it off with Dollar store bacon bits, $1 jar all mixed together. I do cap my dog proof with a golf ball, that I reuse. The golf ball stops most mice, a coon knocks it right off, it is a good sight attractor, in my opinion.

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

If you're in someone's farm yard or someplace where cats are present, use some type of fruity bait that won't attract cats. In other places bait with cheap cat food is good to go.
In other words, you might want to make two kinds of bait.

This is along row or Ditch, cats are common running around. Never hardly a problem in 220s, that use some, u well accidentally catch them in snares more, which don't use on coon hardly, I have seen a cat run though a 160 or 220 an not get caught on a coon trail, I just don't want have trouble them in DPs, so cats usally dont readily get caught in DPs ? Or easily can ?

Easily can imo... but no more than a 1 or 1.5 coil blind set would. I would stay with sweet only if trying to avoid cats.

Maybe not use cat food if trying to avoid cats. Just a thought.

I could take the cat food back Walmart, I have dry crack corn, small marshmellows, an different flavors of powder jello mix, what could use for dry bait, non attractive to cats in place cat food? That not resl high priced, ? I like a dry bait, not something freezes up or big sticky marshmellows , open for ideas on substitute for dry cat food pellets, I admit, I was not up on idea when bought it, but everyone else saying they use it. ? Cats like dry dog food , to I am sure, ?

I mix molasses and strawberry jello or anise with my cheap dry cat.food and it works very well on coon. After a couple months the dry cat food soaks up everything I add to it. I mix mine in clean 1 gallon containers and give them.a good shake every other day or so while the cat food absorbs everything. I've never caught a bird in mine, and no cats either. The golf ball cap is a great trick.
If you want a fairly good in the barn type dry bait use a handful of cheap, off-brand fruity pebbles or fruit loops cereal in a DP. Caught a lot of coon and possums on that stuff in barns and no cats.
Foolproof? Probably not, but so far that has been really effective for me.
Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Get some Anise oil, some Loganberry oil , also some Glycol. Cut up some sponge pieces to fit be hmmm ind the DP trigger.

Soak the sponges in the oil Glycol mix. One Tupperware with lid of each oil mixed 50/50 w oil. You'll have. 2 choices Then use that with mini marshmallows also. Great clean non feline calling baits.

I am around a lot of barns with cats and I also use a fish oil trailing lure...no meows in 15 years at all- Only Coons.

Really not a big deal to catch a cat in a dp. If you do, just let em out. Some can be pretty fiesty though. Ferrel cats are just as big a problem to wildlife as coons too. If I'm not trapping near a farmstead they get dispatched aswell.

I run 100 percent field corn in my dog proofs water proof freeze proof. Just add some sort of fish oil mix or syrup. Only thing I’ve ever caught other than coon was an occasional chipmunk. Cat food always got wet and turned to mush or froze and the trap wouldn’t work. Corn with fish/shellfish works for me when the nights are in the teens after a warm rain

I’d go this route

Not sure what to use ? I like dry bait, Kat food turn to mush an freeze, not good, I guess take Kat food back an fruit loops ? More expensive. An less quanity ? Fruit loops, hold up better in rain ? Fruit loops an small marshmellows, crack corn, powder flavor jello mix, spray lightly water an sprinkle flavor jello mix onto it, so sticks to moisten water bait ? On piece cardboard, spread out thin , Let dry, by fan, so no mold ? Idea ? There some trapline ingredients u can buy to add, but I done orders an shipping an no budget for it

Seems like you guys like to make things way more complicated then you need to. Aldi Cheap fruity cereal mini marshmallows done.

Step #2 - Get skinning knife ready.

Will find out this year. I am going to mix it with Coon Collector. Where I am at I really don't worry about cats.
