I recently got a TC Compass in a drawing and would like to skip some of the trial and error. If anyone has this rifle, what grain bullet does it seem to like the best. I know individual rifles vary, but figured to get in the ball park. Thanks

Sorry, trial and error is really the only way to do it.

I believe in barrel break-in, more so on cheaper guns/barrels. High end barrels lts not so important.

I love johnnys reloading bench. I watch all his stuff. I like him because i have been able to duplicate his results fairly often so its believable. He shows the great groups on top of the garbage fire groups. He has a great series on 300blk loads and he was doing it before you could find established data online.

As far as the creedmore while i dont own one i would recommend looking into the sierra gamechangers for a hunting bullet. Its deadly, accurate, and cheaper than its competitors. In 30-06 from several different rifles it has been the most accurate bullet ive fired from those rifles. I killed 2 deer with that bullet last year and both dropped in their tracks. Prior to that i shot 2 with the barnes 168gr ttsx and both ran about 50 yards with little blood to follow, and both were great shots one I hit the heart directly. Just not enough shock to anchor them. I know people that are nuts about barnes but in my experience they are best suited for heavier game that need penetration, they zipped through alabama does.

It was a real pleasure meeting you and your family at the conventions the last couple weekends.

Yes, it will be trial & error. I load for 5 and none of them likes the same load. Also depends on how picky you are, out of the 5 they all will shoot every load we have tried and most factory loads into 1 1/2" at a 100. I second sierra gamechangers they seems to do a great job. We have also had the best luck with RL 17 with the charge being middle of the road. Good luck and have fun with it. They will shoot once you find the right combo.

I tried many different factory loads through my 6.5 with poor to mediocre to good results. Just started reloading it last weekend and am shooting the tightest groups I've ever shot out of a centerfire rifle barring my 22-250. I've been loading the Hornaday 143 grain eldx with h4350. Haven't got to let blood with this rifle yet but am hoping to take it to Colorado later this year for a cow elk hunt. The eldx gets very high praise as a deep penetration high weight retention bullet hunting bullet. Have also heard very good reviews on the Sierra game changer as stated above.

Sure you'll get a ball park figure, but to tailor a load that will really shoot, you will more than likely have to do a bit of tinkering. That has been my experience in the past anyway. But yeppers The Handloaders Bench is a good place to be for sure.

While you are trying stuff try this, Hornady 143 ELDX and 41.7 grains of H4350. It has shot perfectly out of an AR 10 platform and 4 other bolt guns.
