So I went out to do some trap line scouting this afternoon and discovered almost all of my locations are going to be inaccessible until the fields freeze and even then some of the low spots I trapped to hide the critters from passersby will be skating rinks. Forget about trapping under some of the gravel road bridges as well, they are full of water and running like early April.
Looking like it's going to be tough going this year. Probably only going to get worse if this moisture turns to snow and everything drifted in. Guess I'll be walking a bit more. Feel even worse for all the farmers with flooded fields that wont dry down enough to harvest. Makes me feel bad asking to trap again when I know access to the field is something they dont have themselves and they're making a living at it.

My area here in SE Nebraska is pretty much a mud hole. That said I don't water trap much at all anymore. Never was a really hugh # water trapper. I usually don't set any iron till Thanksgiving or close to Dec 1st. That's when our cat season opens and I don't like turning them purdy kitties loose so I usually wait. Hopefully it will dry our before then. But if it don't I won't set so many sets... and only where I can get to easily. I have been thinking of getting a quad or side by side. But I also want to get a mule or two. Can't buy everything so I'll have to decide what is more important. Yes, the farmers are going to have a rough fall. Years ago when I farmed it was tough enough getting out 4 or 5 hundred acres out when the weather was not cooperating. Now most in my area farm 1, 2, even 3 or 4 THOUSAND acres. It will be a mess for sure if it don't dry out!!

Once you get to a field I wonder if a guy can get around much once he's in there. I was thinking about skunking this year and just run a bunch of cubbies in the ditches off of the better roads.

Don’t look like it’s gonna dry up anytime soon. Forecast says snow on Wednesday

4+" of rain here the past week. Fields are flooded and now they're talking up to 10" of snow this weekend. This years trapping season looks like it's going to be tough!!
