Found a lions mane this morning .I'm cutting barrel stave timber this morning and it was growing out of the top of a dead tree that was slated to go truly a rare and delectable find around here [Linked Image]

I'm going to go out and look for some puffballs in a little bit here. They're super good and I can usually find a bunch.

The only mushrooms, that grow in the Fall, I have ate are Pheasant Backs, Giant Puffballs and Field Mushrooms. Field Mushrooms are the best of the three.

I would like to try Chicken Mushrooms, Chantrelles and some of the Corals.

I like oysters and hens myself. Found a big puff ball not that long ago, but it was too far gone.

I like hens, chickens, and oysters. I've had good luck on hen hunts the last couple times out. I found a few oysters too, but the only chickens I've seen were too far gone.

Just got back from a walk in the woods with my 5 year old. We found a bunch of tiny puffballs, and shot a bonus bunny rabbit.

They're tiny but good.

Not all puffballs are edible, and even edible puffballs aren't edible in certain stages, but if you only eat puffballs that are completely white inside with the texture of a marshmallow, you'll be okay. No gills, no pores, smoothish skin, and a marshmallow interior=good to eat.

Chantrelle's for me are far better than all the others. But I find them in the high country, where elk used to be before wolves were dumped there.
