I just finished an old style joiners chest. Thought I would share some pictures. [Linked Image]
All done by hand
[Linked Image]
Dovetailed corners, with opposing skirt and apron.
[Linked Image]
Saw tills in the lid
[Linked Image]
Two sliding tills.
[Linked Image]
And a molding plane till.
[Linked Image]
The slides for the tills are red oak
[Linked Image]
The till bottoms are white oak.

The interior is finished with a coat of shellac and waxed. The exterior with three coats of boiled linseed oil and waxed. The main body is white pine. I went from rough lumber to finished product completely by hand. No power tools. I have about 60 hours in it. It took that long because of inexperience. Prior to this I had cut a grand total of four dovetails. The lid is mortice and tenon frame with a raised panel. I ruined six pieces before I got the frame correct. Definatly a learning experience!

That's amazing. And all done by hand. Hats off to you.

Now fill that baby up with old tools.

I'll post some pics of the tools I used later. Camera batteries died while I was taking pictures.

I also have enough to fill it and a one or two more like it blush

Incredible workmanship, very, very nice!

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I'm envious. A chest like that is on my to do list but I haven't taken the first step.

Good on you.

Good work. You should sign and date it, if you have not already.

Super fancy. I have no patience for that sort of thing, I'm more of a "get a bigger hammer and hit it harder" kinda guy. Hats off to you.
