The wood stove in the cabin has been dormant for 5 years or so. I’ve checked best I could without disassembling the stove pipe and it appears to have no obstruction and draws a candle flame pretty good with the damper open.

What’s the best practice here for firing it up?

I'd just fire it up. Good quick hot flame to heat the air in the pipe quick.

I bought a cabin and the wood stove looked in great condition same as yours hadn’t been used in years. The stove pipe went through the wall and it also looked great. I almost started a fire in the stove but I pulled the pipe off first and the piece that went through the wall had almost rotted in half. I recommend take the time and thoroughly check the pipe.

I used to clean chimneys on the weekends for a little extra $$$ , what vermontster said is very good advice. Pipe is a lot cheaper than cabins !

agree here too,and in the bigger picture of things-triple wall really isn't that expensive for the protection it provides.

Yep pipe can be deceiving, won't take long to check it.
