Anyone use coon and squirrel tails for tying jigs? What's your method of preserving and removal from the tail?

Do you just cut the hair off close as you can to the hyde? Do you have a preferred method for dying them?

+3 on scrape & borax. Squirrel, rabbit, groundhog and any game bird were always in demand among local fly tiers. Scraps from deer and beaver too.

My fur buyer, buy the Squirrel and wood chuck skins with the tail on.For the Squirrel, just put them up like mink, but the hind feet on the belly side.I use the mink boards and for the woodchuck you keep the bone in the tail but it split to the tip with the skin spread and put borax in it and put up like coyote on coon boards.
