There is yet another round of fires burning land and homes in California. Why don't Californians cut back the vegetation near their houses to avoid the fires? Fire can't spread without a fuel source. It seems extremely stupid to build your house near pyrophitic plants, that can only activate their seeds by burning. It seems even stupider not to keep those plants cut down, to avoid having fuel for wild fires.

Trust me, those Santa Ana wind fires moving downhill through canyons with 50 plus mph winds behind them and dry fuel in a state where not a drop of rain falls between April and November, are not selective. There were plenty of folks who did clear a good perimeter and did the right stuff, but nobody can protect a house in those conditions. The plants that grow there have been there for a long time.

I hope your other 123 posts were about trapping.

There seems to be a lot that Califirnians could do to avoid the fires damaging their homes. I would think that building the exterior of your house out of fire retardant materials like brick, rock, block or solid concrete and having metal, slate or tile roofs would help. Landscaping with succulent plants, that stay moist in dry conditions makes more sense than landscaping with evergreens that contain flammable chemicals. Eradicating all pyrophitic plants from your neighborhood would greatly reduce the fuel for fire. Keeping all bushes and trees away from homes and all grass as short as possible would help too.

The houses that are shown burnt on TV, usually are of wood construction and have asphalt roofs. They usually have bushes and trees planted against the houses. There is usually brush growing on the property within a short distance of the houses and on the hills above them. The neighborhood are heavily wooded with small trees and brush.

A lot of the home are build right in the middle of brush piles will fuel all around them. Getting to the area's to stop the fires is not easy. The winds are pre-heating the fuel before the fire get to the fuel. I am not a fan of CA. but I would not wish this on anybody. Maybe the State will work on fixing the problem instead of all the other B.S. they are working on. JMO

just like mud slides fires in ca are an annual event. I don't know why its even news

3-4 months it will be tornados in al and ms 5-6 mos tornados in ok and ks. happens every year
