Mn, N Dakota, Montana How are the cattle doing with this storm? Have they started their winter coats? Any stock at risk?

So far we haven’t had any real snow in my area. It got cold fast but the cattle look like they’re handling it fine. We had a wet year so there’s plenty of good feed in the pastures, unless we get crazy amounts of snow I think they’ll winter just fine.

No major problems around here yet either Bob, we only received a foot or so of snow on green grass it's been melting slowly and soaking into the ground to keep the grass green even longer so they won't be feeding hay for awhile longer .
Many who put up their own hay had a banner year and they are having a hard time selling the excess hay and many with straw can't sell it as readily as they once did because of all the hay, or they won't break even with the cost of baling it even into large round bales.
This was a great year for the cattle producer's there wasn't any shortage of grass or water with no wildfires to speak of or bad summer storms producing large hail or flash floods so all the cattle I've seen looked fantastic and slick and shiny.
Our daytime highs have been in the 20's and today we should reach into the 40's which with the snow we did receive will make getting around in some places challenging s so it's best to stay on the pavement or well traveled roads or drive in on the frost and leave on the frost to keep from rutting up the twin track road.

Might be hard on the calves that were weaned this week

Central MN here, didnt get near bad enough to put any cattle at risk, one calf found his way through the fence other than that nothing happened with the cattle. We are feeding hay already, not enough pasture.

We have been feeding hay here in southern Illinois for a couple of weeks. We received the first beneficial rain yesterday for the last 7 weeks. Our pastures are very short.

I've dtopped hsy now for a couple weeks. Same...could use more pasture.

waiting for our first frost to come off today and will be out cutting my second cutting. Primarily fescue with red clover I will be cutting and hoping to get dry in 2 days so I can bale it up. Enough hay made with first cutting but this is a separate hay field I can't graze and I might as well bring more hay home. We have had quite a bit of fall rain and no dry time to get much second cuttings in.

No ill effects from weather as of yet here. I have grass knee high and still green from all the Sept. and summer rains. You get farther west and northern MT they had a lot of snow not sure on their condition and grass.

I see most in my area will leave cattle in summer pastures till late Nov. or Early Dec. IF snow doesn't get to deep.
