Hi all! Because of past mistakes I can't own a firearm, so do any of you use an air gun for trapping/preditor hunting, and what would be best caliber, model, most reliable? I know they've come a long way since the 'Daisy Red Rider' but I really don't know much about them.

BTW I don't know about pa state law but under federal law a felon is allowed to own black powder guns. the feds don't classify them as firearms. anything you can buy mail order without going through a ffl is legal under federal law. I bet a 36 caliber muzzle loader is fur friendly

Big bores can get the job done! (That is a Quackenbush .308). Expensive and hard to come by, but they are excellent. That eastern Oregon dog was killed at about 35 yards. They have killing power in about the same range as a shotgun imho.

Thanks all! Looking for dispatch mainly so close range, just want enough gun to eliminate suffering. I checked out 'Air Gun Depot' on web and the choices are overwhelming! More confused now than before, lol.

I had a RWS which had good power, but it was a break open like an over & under. It never seemed to be very accurate. I think that style has a tendency to lose a little accuracy according to a gunsmith I know.

I think that style has a tendency to lose a little accuracy according to a gunsmith I know. I think the first person to shoot a 1 MOA group at 100 yards with an air rifle did with with an FWB 124 which is a break barrel design. The difficulty with shooting an air rifle accurately is holding it loosely. The double-recoil does not like to be tamed and will not reward efforts to try and do so. I have an RWS break barrel and it is exceptionally accurate. Clark
