Thinking about upgrading my gear for the subzero winters. I've had issues with cheap wood handled sledge hammers, and have heard that the fiberglass trapping hammers bust in the cold. Any recommendations other than steel bar stock? Looking for mattox, axe, sledge type tools.

Thanks.

Good wood handles. Solid hickory, hornbeam or ironwood. Wrap the handle under the head in heavy leather to protect from misses.

Maybe go for Pittsburgh Pro brand of hammers. I can't believe I am recommending Hazard Freight but they stand behind their tools.
