it's getting near that time of year again.
man i wonder how many older guys think deer hunting has turned into a joke?
horn hunting is killing it in my book.

Some one needs to take out some does.

High $ lease's, food plots, outfitted hunts, very high $ deer farms......anything to get that 'hero' picture for Instagram. Lots of guys that hunt those places would have a very hard time killing anything on the pressured public land around here especially late season yet they all think they are great 'hunters'. It really has become very much about how to get deer to come to you rather than figuring out deer movement/patterns and setting an ambush.

Some of these guys cannot figure out wind direction without an 'app'....cannot read a topo or navigate with a topo/compass. It is very sad, for sure.

yepper thats all part of it, how many young kids get cut out of even getting started hunting?

Agree completely. Its all dollars and antlers now. Have lost lots of good rabbit/squirrel woods to deer leases. Hard to find places to take kids now. Hunting magazines seem more and more like farming and shooting manuals. Less and less about actual hunting.

Live and let live. Hunt for what you want and stop whining about what other people choose to hunt for.

Not whining at all. Just trying to keep our sport alive and well. Hard to get new people involved when there's no where to go, or you need piles of money.

Guys all around here complain no deer are moving, but it's been 20 years since anyone really did drives. Guess what moves deer? Drives. Guess why bucks don't move? Hundreds of does at their disposal. Everybody has a food plot, even here in AG land. Deer can literally eat, sleep and reproduce in less than 10 acres around here.

I have no problem if you only want to shoot big bucks. It's the running down of people who shoot does and little bucks that irritates me.

They do make some valid points about kids not being able to hunt like we did growing up and lot of people shooting "fed and protected" deer that dont take a lot of skill to harvest. Bernie you make your living in the hunting business don't you?

Yep, lost the "hunt" part that we grew up doing. A whole other deal now.

I see no whining at all. There are post from guys all over the country and they are seeing the same things happening in their neck of the woods. Marty and k snow among others nailed it. Things have changed drastically over the past 20 years and it is hard to find places to hunt now if you don't have money to lease property. It's hard to get kids interested in hunting if you have to rely on public land that is heavily pressured.

My second year bow hunting and I’m more pumped about it this year than last.

Friday morning I went to the stand, no weapon, just getting my mind right. Against my better judgement I decided to do some rattling. 3 times in a minute and a half. 4 minutes later hear he comes out of the swamp. 40yrds out He stops, starts the little tail twitch, a couple more steps towards he and he bolts. I now have to move the stand. lol

After 3 days of target practice, the shot is going to be my downfall. I can’t repeat my technique. The closest I’ve been is 8 arrows in the target box but none closer than 6 inches from each other.

Not at all coming across as a meanie butt, but, you really should be able to shoot tight groups before you hunt. Keep practicing and tweaking, it will come.

not sure if this would help you out...years back I picked up target panic not sure why I'd been shooting archery since I was a kid and shot a lot of 3d for years..

This helped me and may help you with your muscle memory..
I shot close and closed my eyes and shot over and over this way...Removed my sights and shot close to the target..this helped me to relax as I wasn't so concerned on the placement just relax and shoot..

That’s why I haven’t taken the bow in the woods yet. I don’t want to be overcome with desire and take a bad shot. lol
