Ready an article probably about 15 yrs ago in one of the big hunting magazines about how the commercialization of hunting and lack of access to hunting ground for youth was going to be the biggest threat to the future of hunting not the antis.

we are still a family that gets together for opening weekend , it is as much a family reunion as it is a hunt.

with loss of hunting land (we don't pay to hunt anywhere) , we meet at my Great Aunts house , the original 1860s homestead the 20 acres of it that remain in the family. we still have enough land we can hunt that we do drives , not as many as we used to , but the age of the group is also older than it used to be so more sitting , many are only hunting part of the day the average age is 60 the 3 youngest are 41 34 16.

I sat for 1 drive last year and walked all the rest.

we have almost as many artificial joints as people 4 hips 2 knees and a shoulder

I have known hunting was going to change for years , it has some slowly , I don't know what will happen when my Aunt dies , she is 86 , my cousin owns the house and land now but he is 66 I am just glad my son has had a few years to see how hunting was , all his friends basically go sit in the corner of their property and wait for a deer to walk in , then miss a gimey shot because they have awful marksmanship and never shoot from anything but a bench.

at least where we hunt there isn't a dozen different ideas about management, even if there are a dozen ideas about how to hunt , only thing we hear is thin out all that you can from landowners we hunt. a few also hunt and they say , no hunting my place until Monday.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

The way the leasing and (farming) for bucks has taken over here it's only a matter of time till blue tongue or cwd destroy the insane doe population along with the (antlers) the buck hunters are after. I've deer hunted on and off since I was 12 and have way more permission than I could ever hunt in one season but basically stay in my tiny lil spot so not to upset and enrage someone else.. the drama that comes with deer season is unbelievable around here. We dread season around our farm/ranch because of the drama that comes with it. And just like that season is over and the woods are quiet again.....unless there is a chain singing around the corner wink

Around here in East Tennessee we have tons of public hunting and that's all I've ever hunted and still do, there's more places to go than you could hunt but I'm still seeing very few young people hunting. I also started hunting the Midwest a few years ago when I was ask if I wanted to join a lease in Illinois and did and I also bought a little place in Ohio that me and my dad go hunt together. I mainly just hunt for mature bucks and fill the freezer with does. I guess I could see how some areas without much public hunting could be tough to get a spot, but I think all the electric gadgets have took all the kids time instead of being in the woods, which I blame on the parents. I've spent every weekend since season opened here taken my 7 yr old and 9 yr old trying to get them a deer. I love killing mature bucks but my best friend hunts for meat only and took a small 4pt Saturday and I was tickled for him. I'm definitely a live and let live guy

Atta boy RM cool
I have young kids coming in a few days to participate in the Mn youth hunt.
Got blinds set up in GREAT spots and they plan on shooting the first deer they can but if they happen to shoot " my big buck" that will be super awesome!

I now have to move the stand. lol

After 3 days of target practice, the shot is going to be my downfall. I can’t repeat my technique. The closest I’ve been is 8 arrows in the target box but none closer than 6 inches from each other.

Best thing you can do is stand a few yards away from the target, draw and anchor and close your eyes and focus on your form then fire with your eyes close and focus on follow thru. Then gradually work back to 5-10-15-20 yards. Without good form and follow thru your wasting your time flinging arrows.
