Could a full time coyote hunter compete with a longline trapper?

Imo no ,,,
Reason 1 can not hunt 24 7 like a trap can
Reason 2 can not hunt in multiple place at once.
And the list goes on

Are you talking calling vs dogs or chasing?

In general, not. Especially with the way coyotes react to calling here in the east.

I was thinking calling. Here in NY we have some pretty liberal predator hunting laws. I think if a guy were to play his cards right he might at least keep up with the trapper once the snow flies (usually around thanksgiving here) But he’d have to have an awefull lot of locations because how many times can you call the same spot in one season?

Trapping around here will put up bigger #s. I know guys that can average 15 or more a day. And that not trapping feedyards. Coyotes are too educated to calls here to put up those kind of #s. I haven't seen it all but I'd be surprised if a caller could keep up with a trapper over weeks or months.

I would think it would be in this order pretty well everywhere;

1) Snaring
2)Trapping
3) Predator calling

I cannot speak for hound hunting because I have zero experience in anything about it.

Pretty sure guys like Senneker in Alberta takes a thousand plus each year and he's a snare guy-not sure about any of the big foothold guys these days-but this is all within the season not talking ADC or predator control work like aerial assaults etc..

Weather can create much more problems for a caller. Wind alone can take many days and nights out of play.

We have a local calling contest here and the winning 3 man team's # has not been as high as my best day only running 30 traps and I'm not as good as other trappers I know here.

trapping is for serious removal, hunting them is just for fun. No way even a great coyote caller could compete with a half decent trapper with a couple dozen traps.

I don't believe so. There are a lot of predator hunters in my area of Texas and if ranchers are loosing livestock to predators it is more effective to trap.

Although I will say I have successfully squeaked up and shot my problem yote I delt with for 2 seasons of digging at and deficating on my sets (I was pretty new to trapping). Funny how a guy can struggle catching an individual coyote and break out the call an level the playing field with a little luck. All that aside I agree trapping by far is more effective

I know as many trappers killing 500 as I know callers killing 100

Traps work 24/7. Can’t hunt that much. One trapper can run dozens of traps targeting dozens of animals at the same time, one hunter can maybe call in and kill a triple at best. No way calling could ever be more effective than trapping.
