Lock blades that don't lock. What did we ever do before lock blades? Sometimes I have to wonder. Can you show me an example of a folding knife that doesn't lock?

I have one of these knives... give the spring retainer a little bend (or touch up the right spots with a (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) file) and your $4 knife will function appropriately. I had the opportunity to return mine over the weekend and chose not to
Just happy to be here.

Every swiss army knife out there that I've seen. All the old timers knives they carried were just little folders, not locking. But they do lock to a degree, sort of a cam lock. They all "lock" into the open position to some degree. Anyone that's used a folding knife that won't lock and the blade just freely swings around knows what a bad idea it is.

The knives being recalled have a positive lock, and you have to push a button to close them. Apparently, they are not locking tight and can close when in use. With the "spring cam lock" if you wish, knives, you learned real quick not to push the knife a certain way, unless you really wanted to bleed that day. If someone has only every used a positive locking knife, I would NOT hand them a swiss army folder and tell them the blade locks at all. I know it's about semantics, but in my mind there is a huge difference between a positive locking knife and a regular folding knife.

if you buy a 4 dollar knife and it cuts your fingers off, you got exactly what you paid for.
yes, slip joints like swiss army knives don't have locks...but we know that going in, and its not like the blade is just flopping around all willy nilly.
if you knife has a lock and that lock fails, its a whole different ball game - a ballgame that you're probably in because you bought a 4 dollar knife

I know it's about semantics, but in my mind there is a huge difference between a positive locking knife and a regular folding knife. I'm not disagreeing. Just saying that if a "positive lock" knife fails to lock properly, it can be pretty dangerous. You're validating the reason for the recall, where as before you were questioning it.

Must not have written the original post clearly then. Even on a positive lock knife, I don't trust the lock 100%. I was, sarcastically, wondering what people nowadays would be like if locking knives didn't exist. Walking around with lopped off fingers? I guess it's one of those things that gets lost as we "advance."
Sorry for any confusion. Sorry, my fault. I misunderstood.
