Just wanted your opinion on them.I shoot a 6mm Remington built on a Tikka M595 and absolutely love it-but wanted to try something new is all.Interested to hear peoples experience with them.I don't want to buy a 6.5 Creedmoor.Nothing against them just want something different

I have 2 260 Remington’s. One in a model 7 rifle and one in the XP100R bolt action pistol. I like them both. The XP100R in the 260 is a legit 300 yard pistol. The model 7 handles like a dream and has very mild recoil. In my opinion the 260 is another Remington marketing fail. It’s a good cartridge and on par and some say better than the 6.5 Creedmoor but it just didn’t have the hype surrounding it like the Creedmoor.

A good example of Remington failing to market their own round. I just checked the Remington website and there are 15 various models chambered in the 6.5 Creedmoor and only 7 various models chambered in their own 260 Remington.

One bright side to the popularity of the 6.5 Creedmoor is bullet manufacturers have released a lot of new bullets in the .264/6.5 caliber which is good news for all 26 caliber fans.

I have a .260 Remington Savage and really like it . Very little recoil and shoots flat.

The .260 Rem set up correctly can also be a long range gun. I have a friend that built his wife one on a Savage action and it works well for 1000 yd competition.

When the kids were still at home five .260's lived here also. They have dispersed with the kids. I am certain we killed well over 100 deer in the span of about 12 years or so with our .260's. My petite little daughter shot her first deer at over three hundred yards with my .260 and went on to kill many more and a nice bear with her youth model 7. Today she carries a regular size Model 7 in .260. We have had great luck with them. I killed several bear myself with my .260 and use mine with 95 grain V Max bullets as my coyote gun.

If you would rather hunt than day dream about guns and what is the current rage, get a .260, sharpen your knife, and head for the woods. Your search is over.

My middle son bought a model 700 VTR .260 last year. He’s been looking at the Remington book for 4 years he about wore it out. I shot it a few times great caliber. VTR is a bit short for me, but it’s a great shooting gun.

bought my son a Ruger m77 compact stainless laminate when he was 9. killed several deer with it. Shoot Nosler 130gr accubonds. Bought some new Sierra 130gr gamechanger bullets to try this year. they are half the price of the nosler and I have always had good luck with Sierra bullets

Our favorite deer load is a 120 grain Sierra Pro Hunter bullet. My coyote load is a 95 grain V-Max. I have shot deer with the V-Max and if you place shots in the ribs it drops deer in their tracks. I shot 140 grain Sierra Game King bullets for bear, when I was in Washington, but it is too much bullet for our Eastern whitetails.

You'll like the 6.5 caliber MBcoonguy. I'd go with the 260rem personally as its a very accurate and common cartridge.

I've hunted Manitoba for whitetails and yours are somewhat larger as a whole than ours, so I'd stay in the 130he bullet range if not a little bigger. Common Hornady, Sierra or Speer do fine on whitetail unless you feel the need for more expensive bullets. Bear, elk or moose are another story.

Good hunting!

Ps, Rem. Coreloks are my favorite for whitetail but unless you have old stock, they are scarce as hens teeth.

Bought my daughter a 7600 pump from neighbor, shot 140 factory, would like to reload for it. Anybody got any loads they would like to share?

Coalminer - I would have to look up lthe powder type and amount, but, the above bullets have proven to be very reliable. I would strongly recommend the 120 grain Sierra Pro Hunter for deer. It expands well on deer yet doesn't produce a lot of ruined meat.

I shoot both the 100 and 120 grain ballistic tips. I have shot the 95 v-max too. I’ve killed rock chucks, coyotes, antelope, deer, elk, a moose, and a caribou with mine. It’s a Remington 700 mountain rifle stainless with a laminated wood stock. The ballistic tips are easier on fur than the v-max. It’s not what I take for coyotes but it works when they give you an opportunity.

Dads got a 700 in 260. Awesome shooter. Seems to shoot what ever we load for it. I got my kids a Ruger compact 260. It’s been a pretty good shooter. 130gr Swift Scirocco’s is what it like best. Son shot a cow elk at 347 yards. I prefer the 264 win mag. Love the 6.5s
