Hey gents, I looking for a Crossbow for my wife. She has never shot one, but had hunted with a compound for years. After having our little one, she hasn't been able to practice as often as she would like. And she asked me about a Crossbow. I haven't shot one in 20 yrs so I don't know anything about them. What do y'all recommend for a lady, and approximate price too if you know would help.

Thanks.

I shoot Excalibur Grizzly , bought it used for $300.00, look on Craigslist. I like to decock the bow without shooting a arrow.

Many quality crossbow manufacturers nowadays. I shoot an Excalibur Axiom. With scope, quiver and bolts cost is right around $500.00. I like it but then again I am sure I would be happy with a Ten Point, CenterPoint, Ravin or Wicked Ridge model!

A few years back the wife and I bought a Mission crossbow, it is made here in Wisconsin by Mathews,
I suppose many of the crossbows are similar and you will not want to shoot 2 bolts at the same bullseye
target at 20 - 40 yards or you will Robin Hood one. We went with a high end scope and all said and done
dropped about 1K. The nice thing about a crossbow is that we are both able to shoot it, unlike a compound
or other bow where we have such a difference in draw length etc.
Between this, all our other bows, rifles, food plot cost, hunting license and so forth we have managed to
decrease the cost of venison to just under $80 per pound.

WOW! This past year I picked up a deer "shot" with a Buick on opening morning 5:30 a.m. a 100 yards from my driveway! Didn't cost me a dollar!

I suppose it was not yer Buick.
That makes it much more cost effective.

I bought a CenterPoint Sniper 370 Elite Whisper last year as my first crossbow. Cabelas had them for $229 this year. I absolutely love it and had no idea it would ever be this accurate.

When you get one of any kind I would encourage you to buy a bag target meant for cross bow rather than use a layered foam one meant for compounds. I made that mistake and the very first bolt I fired is still sticking in the foam black. The bolts fly so fast and hit so deep they pretty much melt into the foam.

Good luck with your choice and have fun!

I use a Ten point and love it, cost me around $700. But a couple of my buddies have Parker, Barnett, centerpoint, and mission sub 1, all seem to shoot good. A lot depends on what you want to spend. You can get a centerpoint now that shoots over 400 ft/sec for around $300

I have a Barnett and a Ten Point, They both have a hand crank on them to pull the string back that is one thing you need to look at that too many over look. Then just use a cord with hooks on them.

*Center Point Tormentor Whisper AXCTW185CK Compound Crossbow with 4x32 Scope, RCD

My wife and kids were shooting 40 yard + shots. They say the scope is crap but it dialed in within 5 shots and stayed there. At 40 it blows through 12 inches of foam and an inch of stacked cardboard. A piece of corrugated tin slowed it down. Hard on arrows though. Blows right through deer.

It is so flippin quiet. No twang or loud snap.

Anyone recommend a decent illuminated scope that want break the bank. I bought a Barnett Whitetail with scope and it's pretty dang accurate, but I can tell illumination will be nice?????

How about those Ravin crossbows? Are they worth the money?

I bought my first crossbow a about 3 or 4 years back. A Barnett Jackal…. cost $153 delivered to my door from amazon. My huntin buddy laughed. Till we were elk hunting in Colorado and I killed a cow with it and his $1500 crossbow decide to start softly popping and cracking till a limb broke. He ain't laughing any more. It's a cheap bow but with a couple elk, several deer, a few turkeys and yotes under it's belt it's a proven killing machine. This year I bought a Killer Instinct Hero 380, for $299. Seems to be ok but only have killed 1 deer so far. But I do shoot a bunch. Depends what you want to spend. I have seen a lot of high dollar ones break, but work great too. Crossbows have their good points....and their bad points. But they get the job done !!

I love my Wicked ridge invader x4. Makes quick work of both deer and turkeys. As above, I’d recommend a good target (morrell) as well. I hardly ever have half the shaft enter the target and removal is a breeze. I didn’t get the hand crank and think it cost around 500 for the bow.
