I have not set specifically for badger and never really looked for spot but I know where they are. Just wonder what type set, bait, lure and such. I can only get one and have til November 15. my help would be appreciated.

Wish I had more time to trap....

I have caught them in coyote dirthole sets with normal coyote bait/scents. Since we don't have a season I have never targeted them and I avoid areas with lots of badger sign but they do work my coyote sets from time to time.

They’re considered nongame here but I’ve never targeted them. They like to show up and make a huge mess of my coyote sets.

Se the hole with a foot trap just of the slide they have in front of the hole or line the hole with a snare so it drops on the badger stake the opposite way the hole goes so the lock works without a support that way.

Prime is not a factor for me since it will be a wall hanger for me. I have never caught one so I want one just to say I did.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Scout around ditches, draws, ravines. They like to work increases or deceases in elevation. They also like to travel 2 tracks close to these changes in elevation. I have caught truck loads in the middle of or on the edge of 2 tracks next to cover. Just make a dirt hole set like Law dog said. If I’m making a set just for badgers i will hit it with a lot more coyote urine then I normally would use. Good luck

I’ve only caught them in cage trap using dead gopher or dead mice.I tried beef ,pork, chicken and never got one to enter a cage shot a sage rat and threw it in the cage next day I had a badger. It got really cold so I trapped a couple mice and got another one.I prefer the smell of skunks to the stink of a badger lol.

Hi
I've never targeted them but have caught enough. Use to catch more in this area back decades ago when fox trapping. Still catch incidentals now in coyotes sets but its fewer. not sure that reflection of population or technique. When i trapped up that way last fall looked as though you've got a much better population compared to southern part of the state. I'd probably just go with some type of hole set with canine curiosity lure.

Possibly you want some specifics on trapping badgers. Here are a couple. Since you know where the badgers are then make your set in their active dens holes. If you trap their den holes their is no lure needed. You can generally smell them if they are using the den site. They may have several dens that they use in any given area.
If legal use a 280 or 220 Conibear right at the front of the entrance with the trigger on top and wires pushed slightly toward each side.
If you use a foot hold trap I prefer #3 coil spring traps but #2's will work. They will pull out of smaller traps than a #2. Bed it solidly and cover it just inside the hole and offset to one side or the other. Place the trap so the badger steps between the jaws rather than over them.
Regardless if it is Conibear or foothold stake it solidly at the very End of the chain. I like 20" deep or more for disposable stake cables or 24" crossed rebar. If you don't stake them at the End of the trap chain they can be very difficult to get out of their hole.
If you decide to use a dirt hole set rather than den sites any coyote lure attracter with bait down in the hole will likely work. Remember to set the trap about 4"s back and 4"s off to one side of the center of the hole. I like a steep bank for backing and you can guide them pretty hard up to the front of the dirt hole.
I hope you have success. Likely it will Not be prime until late December but the rug will look just fine regardless.
Pete
