How do ya like that title!? Haha. Seriously though, I would appreciate any help you could offer. I’m an Illinois trapper and yet again failed to draw a coveted Illinois bobcat tag. So I’m planning a trip to the beautiful bluegrass state in February to try my predator hunting luck at harvesting a bobcat. According to what I could find online, the state quit posting bobcat harvest results by county 8 years ago. So In planning this trip, it would appear that(according to the most recent data I could find) Peabody WMA would be a great place to start. BUT I wanted to see if anyone could give me a little more insight on a good plublic land destination that holds a good number of ‘cats and preferably a potential bonus of grey fox. I’ve never been fortunate enough to harvest either of those as my area of Illinois doesn’t have any. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Happy trapping fellas!

County harvest data should be available on the KYDFWR website under Telecheck Results. Just pick bobcat from the menu and the county you want to get the numbers for.

Don't know much about Peabody, never hunted it because it is quite a drive from my house and don't really want to buy an extra use permit for the area. I will say there are plenty of bobcats in the state on both public and private land. I don't hunt for them but trap several every season. Grey fox are few and far between most places in the state. I have taken one off of public land in the past 20 years.

Other good options for public land would be Land Between the Lakes - good access, good places to stay and camp. Daniel Boone National Forest is another place with tons of land. Most of the state WMAs except for Peabody are fairly small with limited access and zero facilities.

Well, I had to look to see what the deal was because I knew I'd never trapped in Kentucky, so had to be some mistake! smile

The thing about LBL is the trapping season only runs a couple of days into February, but if you can come at some point in January I would be happy to put you on some cats, and gray fox too

No problem getting you some of those.
