I like 7 1/2 shot in .410 and 6 shot in 20 ga, #5 in a 12, but was curious what size shot you'd pick for 28 ga. in 2 3/4" shells? Thinking these would be a good choice... https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1002147264?pid=850292

I use a combo of 7.5 and 6 shot in both my 12 and 20 gauges when hunting pheasants. 3.25 or 3.75 drams equivalent in the 12 gauge and 2.75 drams equivalent in the 20 gauge.
7.5's in the bottom barrel choked I.C or Mod. and set to fire first, 6's in the top barrel choked Mod or Full.
I don't own a 28 gauge but wish I did.
Eh...wot?

This should work well too but cost a lot more. The #9 TSS has the weight of a #5-6 lead! I only used #9 TSS in my .410 so far and it works a lot better than lead. (.410 pistol and shotgun)

having cleaned some birds with a dense layer of 7.5 under the skin but no deeper , I would go bigger.
we were hunting mid December over a dog , farm birds
I was also shooting backup for kids so I would let the kids have a shot or 2 then drop them in most cases , there were a few that got away
but when I started cleaning them and how much shot was stuck in the skin , I would run larger shot with higher velocity if possible , the kids were mostly using 7.5 trap and game loads in 20ga and I realized they probably were hitting those birds but 1 wasn't enough to bring many of them down.
this isn't a huge sample size and I don't l know what kid was shooting what brand , only that all I saw were 20ga 7.5 trap and field loads going in guns.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I would shoot 5's if I could find them otherwise 4's or 6's.
I have nothing clever to put here.

I use # 5 shot for Pheasants in my 20, 28 and 410. The Winchester 28 ga. # 5 is manufacture # X28H5. It has 1 ounce 2 3/4" and is 1205 velocity.

I'm surprised by the number of guys saying #4 shot in 2 3/4" .28 ga. not much shot for pattern density. I'm leaning more toward 6's though since it's really only 1/8 oz. less shot than your standard 1 oz. .20's. Never felt under-gunned with a 3" .410 in 7 1/2.
