What, no Canadian fishing trip this year?

Was looking forwards to the yearly blue bottle cap pic smile

Hey bucks, we were up in Canada for the usual shindig. Had a great trip even with the record high temps.
I have never been in Canada in mid-September and had the water temperature raise 4 degrees. One day it was 85 out! The year before we left in a snow storm.
Had the fish and this ol boy temporarily confused. lol I think we ended up with 400 or so wall guys for the week. Quite a few fish but nothing over 26" or so.
Northern pike were a little slow. Patrice has a ton of pictures, we have been running a little ragged lately.
Smiley graced the side of a golden walleye for a photo op just before he went into shore lunch this year (the walleye, not Smiley)
Patrice is at a conference in Iowa this week but will post pictures soon. Got some beauties of a heavy rain storm and a double rainbow.

Hey guys! I am still making my way back from Iowa. It has been a little crazy with business this year - this was my 27th year presenting at this engineering software conference. Wonderful poeple and a wonderful venue. Anyway, I do have all of my photos and will get their resolution down so I can post them after I get home. It is so nice that you guys remember!

For now, here is a preview of the 2019 Smiley photo ...

Glad you made it up north again this year.
that's a good example of Blue at it's finest position.....off the bottle......I can hear the first gulp especially with that warm weather awhile back.
When was the last time you saw a Polar bear on their caps ?

Can not say I ever saw a polar bear on a cap, probably did not look closely enough.
Giant bears have a way of sneaking up on you.
Even tho Patrice has spoken directly (I'm serious) with the CEO of LaBatts they have not
brought back Smiley.
Maybe if you guys go back to a conservative PM they can make that change.
Be good to see you again 50, I need to practice that Manitoba mosquito handshake.
grin Zim

Would a Canadian beer company ever dare put this on a cap?

Actually Labatt's sold out in 1995 to Brazilian brewer AmBevor known as Anheuser Busch, so they have gone south fast.
There was a Polar Bear that a Manitoba photographer Robert Taylor took they used as promotion, he did well on Royalities.
If you have to practice it , then you have not been field holding the Staff guage lately....
You have to make it to Manitoba to their Land surveyors convention next fall. Daughter is organizing it with her new position with the province. Selkirk is Catfish Capital of North America , lots of local trapping history to take in.

I shall have to look through some old bottle caps...may find you some more unscratched ones.

Nof50, I would love to come to a Canadian survey conference. From what I see you guys up there treat it and respect it as a profession.
Ask your daughter if she has ever heard of a Canadian surveyor by the name of Bill Mates,
He has published a book or two and I picked him up once at a Wisconsin airport when he came here to speak
at a conference. Very intelligent and interesting guy to talk to.

Just think that you could "tax write off" a trip er conference visit.
Treat it with respect as it is a profession..........much like trapping is treated up here.
All the old HBC archives are stored a mile from my house. Books upon books of individual records from every out-post they maintained.
The replica of the HMSC Nonsuch that they sailed into James Bay-Hudson Bay and created the HBC is worth a tour.

Waiting for your dear wife to load those last MONTH'S fishing pics

Sorry - I'm just catching up again and just read this, Teepee. I was in Ames at Scheman Center at Iowa State University. There are always folks from Stanley at that conference!

Still planning to get the Canada photos posted. I was out of town again until last night. (Helping Mom this time!)
