I like to try something new every season- I read a thread back in August about waxing traps with Zep Floor Wax- Today, I experimented with a few dozen rat traps. I really liked the end result, easy to use, dried in 1/2 hr. and seems to be durable. Maybe canine traps next season.

I have used floor wax in the past. Works pretty good. Not a soft as wax you melt in a pot, but still effective in coating and protecting a trap.

I am planning on trying Zep on my foot hold traps this year. Having read that the ingredients are the same as Full Metal Jacket i figure Zep is the way to go since its much cheaper.

I use acrylic concrete cure and seal on water traps.

I read and screenshot the same thread. I did a couple dozen a few weeks ago. I’m gun shy on trying new things, but they look great. Dipped them 2 times 24 hours apart. I’m looking forward to seeing how it preforms. Tuff to beat a good wax job, but we’ll see

I believe railroader is right . I have Zeps and full metal jacket, can’t see any difference.

What's the process for dipping in the floor wax? Do you dye first? Need the wax to be at a certain temp? I have a few dozen 1.5 coil springs to prep for rats before next weekend and was going to just dye and wax the old fashioned way, but may give this a try instead.

I was doing some traps one of my boys bought last year. I just power washed them. Let them dry and dipped them.
Like I said above I dipped them twice. My Zeps was the same thing, but in a yellow bottle.

I have a few that were dyed but most were just acetone dipped 50:50 with Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer.

So the floor wax is just to replace the traditional pot of molten wax dip, right? You still need to otherwise treat a rusty trap with one method or another before dipping in the floor wax.

I tried that cheap crap on floors, had to redo a 1,100$ floor because it has poor quality, , my wax mop gets corroded from the wax, water softens and ruins the wax

I tried the dipping in 50/50 acetone/paint then dipped in zepps. I had poor luck using it in pipe dream sets for coyotes. But coons possums and skunks don’t mind it. And it worked ok in dirt holes with standard bedding methods, covered with 3/4” of dirt.

And it’s not heated, just dipped cold.

I dip every foothold trap I have in Zepps. My coyotes don't care either. I love the stuff.

Tried that acrylic floor wax when it first came out. Worked OK until got cold. It looked like a glitter explosion when it went off without a catch. I now do the tree bark and wax route.
