Seen another wolf this evening at the pond I'm trapping on.A nice white one.He was in the water and ran across the creek and into the brush as I pulled up.I figured he may have taken a catch, but both traps were untouched. He must have smelled the lure.Explains also why it takes the beavers several days to work the sets-they are likely over cautious with all the wolf activity in the bush this year.I will change up the sets away from lured to submerged blind sets.
Its been a while since I have seen so many wolves running around.Thats 4 in the last couple weeks, all in different places. And all different colours-a grey, a red, a black, and a white.

Didn't start fur trapping yet,did do some scouting.
The lines up north are polluted with beaver.
I put up 59 beaver recently, the nuisance beaver that were good to skin-between end of season may 15th until june 01,and also those trapped between sept 15th and oct 5th(start of fur season).
These pelts are turned in to the fur council and sold under a special licence to raise money to fund workshops, field trips, aerial trapline surveys and the nuisance beaver program.
Every year some of the nuisance pelts turned in have made top lots. These are no doubt the spring pelts taken in May.
The avg price is always near the auction avg.

Pelt shown is late sept beaver, there is about 35 in the stack.

Thanks oaks.
I use LDL and belisle, for fur and a few old victors and bmi's for nuisance.
Always lose a couple traps to bears and occasionally wolves each year when doing nuisance beaver,so I employ the older traps when I see sign indicating bears and wolves may be a problem.
In warm weather, lure as well as the catch itself, especially on a 2 or 3 day check does attract the predators when the odd catch doesn't make it to deep water.

Hello PCR,you still bs'n on here?lol.
You gonna trap this year with all the uncertainty in the market?
I don't know how long I will go this winter.I landed another trapground adjacent to my northern line. Its a Native ground and George doesn't trap it,so he gave me permission to get a licence for it.Lots of beaver and lynx on that line.I will likely trap mostly beaver this year,as I have a good market for tanned beaver, both skins and manufactured goods.

A good tanned lynx could find a home here boco if you chance into one.

I got around 5 coming from the tanner, but those are not the nicest ones.I get the ones with the off colored bellies tanned for hats, since the backs are still nice and silvery, and the hats are beauties, but they downgrade them in the market. The ones with the clear bellies I ship to auction.
When I get a nice big one with a clear belly,I can set it aside for you mud.I believe they are a cites animal so maybe a big hassle getting one across the border. Can check it out though.
