Yep..I have this cage trap with a pan..The squirrel is called a "Rock Squirrel"...I was shooting them until someone got a little cranky about it..So I go set this cage trap with one door and put some peanut butter in back of the pan..I have been watching this squirrel for a couple of days and it won't commit to the bait...So for the question what kind of change up bait can I use?..And for that matter I suck at cage trapping cat's also..LOL

I can catch them here...I can catch them ANYWHERE

bird seed

suet also works

I have no black walnut trees but I stop off and pick up a bucket when I see them falling I placing one in the back of the trap, this is what I use the most. free is good

these are all things they are more likely to eat regular than peanut butter

if you have bird feeders put them away while using the feed it the trap.

I can't shoot the squirrel in town and they are thick and fat so 2 box traps I clear them out of my yard nearly every fall and every fall there are plenty of new ones that move in to fill.

the big fat Grey squirrels make good BBQ.

get the bait behind the pan some times front foot isn't enough to drop the pan or they can get the bait without putting any weight on the pan, I got a nuisance cat this summer that I saw in the trap eating the dish of food sitting just past the pedal and not wired high to the back of the trap like I normally prefer , I walked towards the trap it turned to leave and set off the pedal dropping the door.

a tuna can wired up in the back of the trap for bait makes them go in farther and spend more time dancing on that pedal.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

A #110 in a box is effective but not always deadly.

Put peanut butter under the pan of a 1 1/2 with the V cut out of the pan. Have the PB smeared over the V from the bottom side. When they are working the bait they push the pan down with their head. That worked better than anything else I tried with franklin ground squirrels.

I also tried pushing the wires on a 110 trigger together and slipping a piece of soft 3/8s clear tubing over the trigger and pushing the bait down the tube. I had a better catch percentage with the spring up or down than sideways. so the squirrel was going between the jaws. I tried about half a dozen different types of sets. The 1 1/2 had a much higher catch rate than the others.
