I trust electronics because they have saved us many times. We use electronic on the water and land all the time and seem to do what they were designed to do, GPS & navigation.
Thread was about "GPS died in the woods" it looks like you got many answers on that topic.

Marty no offense taken and understand yours and others observations about being prepared. I had a guy go hunting with me up in maine in Oxbow out in the Allagash. Said he new how to use a compass. I had maps and studied them before going. We went separate ways scouting on Sunday . He got lost and came out at a logging header that night. We called in for help and searched all night. He spent the night in a fella buncher. Looter brought him back early the next morning. He then confessed to not really knowing how to use a compass or a map. Spent the rest of the week glued to me.
The bitterness of poor quality last a lot longer than the sweetness of low price

Yep. That is why I always carry my smart phone just in case my Garmin quits on me...... Larry has influenced my way of thinking ever since he came on to the scene. Another grossly under-rated comedic genius.

Finding your way back is easy. I know the truck is generally north east from where I am and I can generally figure out north east, either with a compass or the sun. Even if I'm off by a little, I'm going to come out of the woods within a couple of hundred yards from my truck. Finding something in the woods is the hard part. If you miss your deer stand by 50 yards you might as well be in the next county. I usually mark things like that with reflective tacks on 4 sides of a nearby tree. With a flashlight, I can find what I'm looking for.
