The missus was in PA visiting the kids and grand son for a week. She got back while we had some snow on the ground and she nearly slid into the side of the boat when she parked the car. I am thinking of putting the fenders back on the starboard side smile But if I do that I would probably die.

I took the day off today and tinkered in the workshop trailer. Cleaned and prepped some brass ready to load. 30-30 , 6.5 Grendel and some 30-06 and put the Tasco scope onto the black rifle to try out tomorrow. Se if the thing holds up to the 458 SOCOM or if it scatters. Still had a bunch of stuff shower from towing the trailer up here and had to sort that out. Made an adapter cable and now have the trailer plugged into the pole and have a little cube heater set up in there. Nice to have electrickery without a generator running. Been raining on and off all day so I did not get around to zero the thing. I'll do that tomorrow. Going to Drive down to Hilton Head Island on Monday to work for a week, screwing around on boats till the 23rd. Then come back up here for 3 weeks or so doing my thing mucking around on the homestead. Cutting wood and building prep stuff. Got the tractor fixed for the most part. But still need to rebuild the starter as it is not very enthusiastic cranking it over and when it is under 30F I need to get the jump leads out to help it along a little bit. Have not been able to find a rebuild kit for one of those yet though, so will have to keep looking till I do. I really want to find out what those wires are for in the under ground water tank I found here when I get back. We may have a well I did not know about and that would be a huge step forward for us. I can't look at the bird feeder without thinking about Jonathan these days and have been reluctant to blow the dust of my DSLR and take some pictures. I'll get around to it at some point though. One step at a time

Got the 4 wheeler running, made a little trailer for it and started to clear the site for the house. I cut down a nice oak that I am going to mill into boards tomorrow to build the steps for the Boat / cabin. As we are still using a stepladder to get onto it. When I have that thing built, I'll clear a few more yards of my shooting range as a treat lol. Thats the view from where the house will be. Looks better in real life than it does in those phone pics. Little by little we are getting things done a step at a time. ..... Now I have to organize a burn barrel.

Down at the creek bottom are too many rocks to clear the brush with a brush hog on a tractor. So I am doing it on foot with a weed whacker and chainsaw. The good thing is that down there I can make as much noise as I want without any of it making it out. So I started early today and just finished for the day. Got about 200 yards cleared Have to go down there with a range finder to know where I am at exactly but it will do for now. When I have a little time next week, I'll set up target places and build a shooting bench. I have a dock box I don't need anymore and i'll set that up down there as well so I can leave the stuff I use down there ... like paper targets staple gun, shooting rests chrono etc. All I have to take for a shooting session then is the rife, ammo and notebook. Should be able to have my first session down there by next weekend. I'll take some pictures next time I am down there to measure and set up targets.
Got a burn barrel today and made a lid for it as well. Tomorrow its back to milling some planks for the steps and for a compost box. Got to keep up with the honey do list smile

Sounds like it will be a while before you run out of things to do.

Yeppers Boco i don't think boredom is one of my problems in my mediate future. I have a whole bunch of little projects that I want to tackle before spring time, when I want to have a closer look at the lake and do a spot of fishing here and there once I have the little boat cleaned up and painted. Need to get and couple of trail cameras as well and put them in strategic places to see what critter frequent what parts of the place. I could easily keep another couple of people busy here laugh

Sharps Chapel in Union county.

Had a good rain storm last night So I guess with that downpour, those pile I put in are now set good and proper. Today is mostly clearing tools away, Load the truck and tomorrow first thing I am heading back to the beach to work for other people. Then come back here the weekend after next with the mobile workshop getting that set up. The big move is going to be on the 18th when the boat is getting hauled out for her last time and getting trucked up to the spot on the hill.

I visited Cookeville (little ways south and west of you) about 12 years ago. Beautiful country out that way.

Well that was weird.

I Finished cutting the shrubs on what is to be my shooting range. And when I did the rough cut I stopped at what I thought was about 200 yards. There was a oak in the way and I felled that yesterday and went to pull it up the bank and cut it into 10' length. So there was me thinking, " this is about half way from the shooting position to the target. So I got the range finder from the 4 wheeler ranged the target 97 Yards and I was standing 3 yards short of the tree. Ranged the spot where I am going to put the box and shooting bench 104 yards. .... who needs a range finder anyway what ya have eyes like the bionic man grin . So I am guessing that job is jobbed lol.

I am quite happy with what I got done in the last 3 days driving a week whacker and a chainsaw.

Pic one is looking from the 100 yard line to the 200 yard target
Pic two is looking from the for now shooting spot to the 200 yard and 100 yard target positions and
Pic 3 is looking from the present shooting position up the range to where it is going to be and will give me 300 yards to play with. once I hack away some more brush and a couple of trees. But for now the 200 yards will do me just fine.

Now I can spend the evening picking thorns out of my adonis body.

I have pulled the wheels of the little trailer as they had open bearings of the cheap crap kind in them. So I pressed them out and have ordered some ZZ bearings ( sealed on both sides and greased for life of the bearing.
They should arrive on Friday and while I was at it, I re enforced the struts of the trailer as they were flexing a little when I was hauling loads of firewood when bumping over rocks and downed branches.
Loaded up some test rounds for the 6.5 Grendel last night ..... and will have a go on the new playground tomorrow if the weather lets me. Those Nosler 120 grain B tip bullets look promising as venison getters.

Some folks asked me if I had a well on the property and how I get water so I thought I may as well share that here as well.
I have a spring at the bottom of the place and I actually set up the range next to the creek bed that comes from said spring. So at the moment as I do not have a well yet and the house is going to be in a different spot to where the houseboat is I am bringing the water up with a tank on my trailer for the small boat. Using a 12 volt membrane pump to fill it , and a live bait well pump at the bottom of of the tank to transfer the water into the boats on board tanks. The boats tanks hold just over 100 gallons and that tank in the trailer holds 70 . So whenever the water level in the boats taks goes a bit low, I hitch up the trailer , drive down to the spring and fill the thing. Once the house is built, I'll dig a shallow well and pump the water into a cistern next to the house and work it that way as the house is going to be way closer to the spring than the boat is. I used the same system when we were out at anchor ... just got the water from the marina instead of a spring and used the little boat instead of its trailer.

Thank you for the kind words 330-Trapper. I think I am finding my land legs and right now the place is still a little in disarray. So going by a well proven motto, improvise, adapt and overcome gets stuff done good enough for the missus. All leading up to when I can finally start on the house and get that done.
I was going to spend some time on the range and play ( try out some new stuff ) But its been raining since sun up. So listed after getting some work for customers out of the way I loaded some test rounds instead to try out once thongs dry up a bit in a day or so.

And we have a new crew member. Finnegan Fin for short . 7 Weeks old GSD. The 2 hour drive home with a couple of interruptions for pee stops wore him flat out.
